1944 for rolls and detecting for me too. Went out detecting last weekend, found 73 coins, 1 wheat it was '44. Went through $100 in rolls, didn't count them but '44 was a clear majority.
Wow never though I would get such a huge response. Also I find it strange cherryman that 1947 would be your most common. I belive out of all the 1940's that year had the lowest mintage. When i first started it took me a while to find it. Many of the common dates everyone has listed mainly 1957d and 1946 are also ones I see all too common. I distincly remember there being a time where strangly I did not find a single 58' wheat for several weeks not that I wanted to anyway.
