Canadian Coins. Worth keeping?
The tellers in my bank give me all the Canadian coins they find in the coin machine rejected bin.
So far all I have gotten is clad, some Canadian quarters, Canadian cents, and Canadian dollars.
Is it worthy to keep getting them? I mean. I live in Texas very far from Canada and the banks probably exchange just
bills not coins.
Any advices?
Thanks for reading

Sorry im not going to be of any help on this topic ( i live about 2-3 hours away from Canada ) so i just put it back into the wrappers. If im not mistaken its technically worth less than US money ( but you didnt buy so hang on to it for a few years and see if it can pay for a canadian vaccation ) I GUESS ? ? ?

Re: Canadian Coins. Worth keeping?
I save every Canadian coin I find. They go in a jar. It won't amount to much, but when the jar is full, I'm taking them back to Canada (Niagara Falls). I've always loved my vacations to the Falls. Taking the change will just give me the incentive to return.

Re: Canadian Coins. Worth keeping?
I save every one, and there might be a very good reason.
Canada is actively retiring older coins from circulation (via their version of Coinstar) and replacing them with steel coins. This will eventually make low mintage moderns somewhat rare.
Plus, lost in the rush of gold and silver are copper and nickel values which are also going up nicely. Pre-1982 nickels are 100% Ni.
Last appearance in pocket change:
Wheat penny - 1944 (4/29/12)
Silver - 1928 dime (12/5/11)
Dollar coin - 2010-D (Pierce) (4/16/12)

Re: Canadian Coins. Worth keeping?
My point is that they give you the money. I don't care if it's gold, coin, paper, or plastic or whether it's from England, Zambia, Honduras, or Canada. I wouldn't scoff at the exchange rate or any of that. It's free money if you get enough of it and put it on Ebay with a buy it now price of $XXX. Hmmm...let's think about this. If I save up $800 Canadian that I got for $0 USD and I sell it to a northern friend on Ebay for a post-fee and shipping profit of $50 USD, then I've made $50 USD and I'd be happy (and yes, I do know that the $50 USD is ridiculously low). My point is that you're getting free money and wondering whether or not to keep it.

Re: Canadian Coins. Worth keeping?
Heck, I'm even saving all of the bent, rim damaged, corroded, and other non-functional US coins that I get from the reject bins. I'll try to send them to Philly when I get enough to make it worthwhile.

Re: Canadian Coins. Worth keeping?
Sure, I spend it all the time here locally and I am in So California. People don't look close at their change. Same size and same value and I am 1500 miles from Canada. Now Mexican coins are a diff story. Nobody will take them and I am in Mexifornia.

Re: Canadian Coins. Worth keeping?
Well, I just started to get these Canadian Coins so I do not have a lot yet.
I would not try to spend them here in the U.S. as US Money. It is a felony.
I will keep them and when I have enough I will do one of the following:
1 Trade/Sell them on e-bay
2 Trade/Sell them to one of you
3 Look for a Bank that will exchange them
4 Go to Canada on vacations and pay with this money once there.
Thanks to all you for reading and responding to it.
It is still free money

Re: Canadian Coins. Worth keeping?
I had a bunch of "furrin" money from when I worked p/t as a river guide on the Colorado . I finally took it all to a casino in NV and cashed it in . Problem was that they wouldn't take the coin . I have a $2 & $1 Canadian and $1 Australian . It's only worth $2.70 altogether so maybe I'll keep my eyes open for a Canadian next time I'm in a casino . Give them an early Christmas present ..... eh ?

Re: Canadian Coins. Worth keeping?
or try plan B save em up --look up a canadian coin store online --save up enough to buy some us silver coins from em (which the canadian coin stores have) use some of the candain money to pay shipping back to you as well --- say you get $35 bucks worth of candain -- $15 for back shipping to usa and 20 for a silver coin--so all you pay is shipping up to canada * in exchange for a nice silver coin, cha ching .
