Got Asked to Leave The Casino.......

In Louisiana, we're known for a few great things - teenage pregnancy rates, underage drinking, eating animals that shouldn't be eaten, stupid cajun music that makes no sense, and AWESOME CASINOS IN THE MIDDLE OF SWAMPS.

Well, since I turned 21, I've visited the casino quite frequently. Since I'm cheap as all hell, I usually go with friends to get the free drinks. Since I've been sitting on a 5-gallon bucket of junk money (the banks watch for me now), I've begun going to the casino to cash in my change, usually once every 3/4 days.

It started off great - turned in around $280 in change. The second time was around $215ish. The THIRD time was a bit different.

I walk up to the counter, and after seeing the change she asks for my player's card - I hand it over as usual. She scans it through one computer - no go. She goes to the computer on her left - no go. She goes to the manager's computer, and that's where it goes downhill. The super hot blonde manager begins shaking her head, and they both walk up to me. Conversation goes like this.....

- Sir, we can't cash your change in....
- Why not?
- Because we can tell that you are just using us to cash in your change......
- Not at all, I go and play for a while after cashing in.
- Sir, it shows that you have played $41.15 since having the card (Aug 09), and you've cashed in over $500 in change.
- So, what does this mean??
- Unless you actually plan on playing, we're going to have to ask you to leave.
- Thanks anyways, but I've got to pay bills.

As I turn around, I see two security guards standing about 15' back against some slot machines, and they give me a funny look. As I begin walking towards the door, I can see that they are following me. Thankfully they stopped at the elevators, because I would have hated running from them with 40lbs of change in hand

So, lesson learned - DON'T go to the casino with massive amounts of change anymore

As a coin roll hunter, you are doing nothing but inviting a whole lot of excrement to fall on your head by visiting a Casino.

Casinos are notorious for helping people launder money, and the fact that you are bringing in one type of money (coins) to exchange it into larger denominations (bills) does nothing but alert them that something is up.

We have been discussing issues along these lines quite a bit lately and it would behoove you to go back and read a few of those posts before EVER visiting a Casino again.


BTW security guards are not your problem. The guys in bad suits connected with the FBI are going to be your problem.

Louisiana is also world renowned for our amazing feats of corruption. I don't think that a guy turning in a few hundred bucks worth of change is going to bring me any heat - especially after I've seen people bring the big 5-gallon water jugs FULL OF CHANGE in on a hand-cart.

Unfortunately, I hadn't done much reading on here lately, and today was the first time I had heard about the casinos being big money laundering places. Oh well, live and learn.

I've cashed in at casinos a number of times when I used to go there all the time, but usually it was just whatever I could carry in in my pockets...which when wearing cargo pants with lots of pockets I learned was about $100 in nickels... If you try it that way though, just make sure you wear a good belt...

Oh and try not to walk to fast or you make a lot of jingling sounds...

Your problem was using the "player's card". Hence, they could track your activities. You are not obligated to use a "player's card". Of course, you won't earn comps.

Lousiana must have different protocols for cashing in. When Missouri & Vegas casinos handled cash, they had no way of determining how much change one cashes in relation to player's card activity. Now - most casinos in both states have gone to ticket vouchers.

Secondly and it may be a little time consuming but if you are not cashing too much, the machines will take coin but only pay in script so (and I have done it on occaision) plug the coins in the machine and then immediately hit payout, take the script to the wickets and walk out with bills.

Sadly, many of the newer machines/casinos no longer take coin. I'm not aware of the machines along the gulf coast, but I imagine those affected by Katrina have taken the opportunity to replace all their machines. I have been involved with new casinos starting up, and they are all what is known in the industry as TITO(Ticket In Ticket Out) machines. Now the Ticket In part is misleading as they will accept cash or vouchers (Ticket Out), but they won't accept coin. It saves the casino tons of money in not having to count/sort/store massive amounts of coin.

I don't think them kicking you out hand anything to do with alleged money laundering fears. Instead it was because you weren't gambling enough. You were basically using them as a dump bank. Had you gambled and lost all the money, I would guess that they would welcome you back with open arms.

Whew, lots of points to address here.

Down here, our casinos do not operate on coins - only cash and vouchers/tickets. Stick in $5, and you receive a ticket/receipt when you cash out. You then go to an unmanned atm style machine to get your cash and change.

To utilize their coin services, they require you to have a "players choice" card. This basically tracks every penny that you spend on the slots. Obviously I haven't spent enough, haha.

If I cashed in $300, and left with $0, there would be no hesitation on their part. When I cash in $300, and leave with $298 and a handful of Bud Light, they don't like that.
