Most of the banks in my area seem to have no halves at all.
If there are any, it's usually just one or two, and all skunks.
However, after striking out many times and many many skunks, I have purchased one 90% Ben dated 1963, and eight or nine 40% Kennedy halves from a tellers tray.
One day when asking for halves, my bank offered to order me a $500 box. I was excited when it came, but it was a skunk. I plan to order another box and try again.
Another day my bank agreed to sell me a $1,000 bag from their coin sorting machine. It contained one 90% Walker dated 1917, one 90% Kennedy, and fifteen 40% Kennedy halves. Also in this bag was an Ellis Island commemorative half, a handful of S mint proof halves, and 8 nice looking 2009 P /D NIFC halves, and a few foreign coins.
I think my best CRH find so far was two rolls of all 40% Kennedy halves, no clad! I had been to this bank three or four times asking for halves before the teller got these out of the vault for me.
Happy hunting to all!
