This may have been answered before but trying for a answer Was there a special halve dollar in 1986? A friend of mine found one 1986s says half dollar and "In god we trust" has a statue of liberty on other side. the other question whats with the double date stamped 1960 1980 found one on a 1966 halve. very small atamp on either side of Kennedy's head.

Question two: Someone felt like stamping 1960 1980 on the half dollar to possibly mark an important event or the death of a loved one, etc. It's not an error.

This is not right. It was an actual after mint stamping that was usually electroplated there are 2 variety's 1960/1980 and 1960/1985 marketed to commemorate Kennedy's presidency I believe.

Let me dig up the actual add that the late Silver_Fox provided for me when I posed that same question after i joined this forum 2 years ago. i have since found well over 40 of these in various states of condition but the years on the actual coins were all different, as if they simply took coins right out of circulation and added the stamping and plated them. What may be special about the one found here is that it was actually stamped on a 40% silver 66.....

Thank you for the info.I knew it wasn't a collectible just needed to know the story Probably just save it for my granddaughter.also found one with the letter D stamped very deep ,must of been a punch press.

Funny,I just got one of the 1960-1980 variety!!! in one of my 2 boxes this week
