This is getting to be quite a bit of fun! Several banks visited today...most either had no halves or the ones they had yielded nothing good. I bought a total of $600 in halves today...here are the goods.

40% Kennedy Halves
1965 1
1966 6
1967 14
1968 22
1969 6
90% Kennedy Halves
1964 2

I also got something interesting...a half dollar of Booker T. Washington dated 1946 looks to be 90% silver. The final piece is a gold colored coin of Harry Truman...

It is so strange that you can go to bank after bank and get nothing or get searched rolls and then you hit a bank or two that has some good stuff.

Tomorrow I'll try another part of the city.

Over 50 silver halves is a great score Bill! Congrats!

Here's a theory about why silver is so commonly found in half dollar searching. Even to non-collectors it's pretty well known that the government took the silver out of coins in 1965. Maybe people think this applies to halves too.

My $100 in halves produced a big goose egg today. Bleh...

I was determined to find something good today!

Got $70 in nickels -

1940
1946
1946D (2)
1953D
1955D (2)
1957D
1958D (2)
1959D

and $10 in pennies

1951D
1953D (wheats - 2879)

1979 Canadian

All in all rather mundane results. February has been downright subpar. Glad others are having some luck.

What luck everyone else has... grr.. Out of 60+ banks / credit unions called in the past 10 days in my town, one bank has over $1,000 that has been searched through, one bank had $130 that only got me a 64, 68D, and a proof, another had $150 that got me nothing and today, the very last bank on the list gave me $190 that was sorted by decades. That leaves the rest of the banks with NO halves at all.

This town has squat for coin collectors.... sad...
