Saturday's Half Dollar Search

I was able to stop at a few of the rural area banks. Most didn't have any halves. I finally hit one that had $280 in halves and this is the result from those rolls. They were federal reserve rolls.

4 1964 Kennedy 90%
2 1967 Kennedy 40%
1 1969 Kennedy 40%

That's it. I was hoping for more, but the 4 1964s were nice.

good luck searching

Lucky dog! I envy you. I'm living in the land of no halves down here.I'm gonna have to get with the manager and have them ordered in advance every week, I guess. Not enough time to yet.Haven't looked for a week maybe i'll give it another try, tommorrow's payday!I don't really search pennies and nickels anymore,i'm addicted to silver!Good luck and H.R.S.-diggummup

Well done Bill!

You may be the first to find more 90%'s than 40%'s in one batch.

Immy...I see that you're in Vegas. Do the casinos still use half dollars in the slots? I am trying to decide if it is worth a visit to Vegas to search the casinos for halves.

Well Bill, you may have to call around but I believe some still do. Many have gone coinless but the one I work in still has 'em, despite the fact that all our half machines are coinless. About 30% of our machines still take coins so nickels and quarters are easy enough, but pretty soon someone'll catch on and say "why do we still carry halves" and that'll be that. I try to go thru $100 a day while we still have them. And the end is coming soon, too. At one point we had about ten automated counters throughout the casino, now we're down to three. It'll be a miracle if I'm still searching halves a year from now. :'(

But nickel and quarters machines are still plentiful in the smaller neighborhood casinos. In fact I'm on my way to my favorite one that has about 50 penny machines. Nothing like a $5 lunch and an afternoon of wheatie searching!

BTW, can you tell I'm being selfish by not telling you which casino I work in? ;D

Re: Saturday's Half Dollar Search

All of the casinos that have live card games will have rolls of halves. It is necessary for payouts on Blackjack. I guess a few might use quarters, but awhile back the waitresses complained about that because when a casino uses quarters to payout blackjacks, it lowers their tips some.
Casinos are useful for cashing in also. The local (off strip) casinos here will let you cash in any coin to them at the teller window. The idea is that you will spend some on the way out. Strip casinos also cash in coin, but usually not dimes or pennies. Odd thing about halves from casinos though...the last batch I bought $100, and every coin in every roll was 2000 D!! Not only skunked, but skunked good.

Re: Saturday's Half Dollar Search

Speaking of skunked, that defines my $100 in halves today.

Those solid 2000D rolls are weird mtl. If you plan on searching more halves before you move, LMK if you ever find any 2002, 2003, 2004 or 2005's. I never do but others say they run into them all the time.
