New CRH'er: initial results, plus questions for the experts!

Went to pick up my first box of halves yesterday. Last week the teller had said minumum order was 1000 halves (or so I thought). Turns out, minimum order is $1000, so I had two boxes waiting on me!!!

Well, through 30 rolls --- Skunked on silver, but i have found 3)2004, 1) 2007 and 1)2009.

They are Brinks rolls. Do any of you have success with Brinks?

Just to summarize, anything 1964 and older is 90%. 40% is 65-70 (or is it 69)? What other oddities should I be looking for? Thanks for ya'lls help and HH.

You are correct on the years. 1970 halves are 40% and were only issued in mint sets. Oddities include clipped coins, and 1974 D double die reverse. Anything after 2002 is NIFC....some people keep them, some don't. There are clad and silver proof coins (S mint mark). Hope this helps

I do Brinks Boxes gave up on the Guarda around here they are the pits, the Brinks are very slow of late- last few months, only got 11 Silvers outa 5 of 6 Boxes last week, week before was 6 of 6 Skunks.
Only thing you need to beware of is the square Halves!

keep any 1987 Kennedy halves. They are a key date for the set. BTW, the 1974-D double die is on the obverse "Trust". The reverse sometimes shows "die chatter" and that's not considered a true double die. Hope this helps

1. any 2002-date halves (2001 & back was issued for circ., even if the red book says differently)
2. foreign coins
3. some save gold plated halves
4. proof or "S" mint coins as rileyboy said
5. pre-'71
6. listen when u drop coins in the junk pile cuz there are some "trick" coins used in magic tricks usually w/ a mexican coin inside, and they will make a loud clank.
7. no "FG" halves...google it if u havent heard of it.
8. rotated die halves
thats all that i can remember, but if i think of more i will post them too.

The 1987 is a mint set only coin. I wouldn't necessarily call it a key date. I would keep them.

With a mintage of around 3 million for most years between 2002 -2008 I wouldn't say they were minted for circulation.

They also made 1976 S 40% silvers as well as copper/nickel clad.
