I have now been addicted to this for 1 month. I started with pennies...bought $50 worth. It was fun but tedious. So I tried dimes...only 1 Rosie and a 5 pence piece out of $250...again, a lot of labor putting those dimes back in the rolls. I then spent a week on a cruise where I searched the nickel slots...now that was fun! I got 87 nickels older than 1960 (2 were war nickels). Then I bought my first rolls of halves...bingo! That was it for me. Easier to search, not as time consuming to re-roll and the potential payoff is good...perfect. In the month that I have been searching half dollar rolls, I have found about 390 silver halves. The large majority are of the 40% silver variety. But there has also been a nice amount of those that are 90% silver. I have found 2 Franklins, 1 Booker T. Washington, 3 proofs and an assortment of unusual halves. During this month I have also found out that a cousin works as the vault teller at a bank (nice contact there).
This has been a lot of fun. Now that I have roll searching and metal detecting as hobbies...I have decided to stop collecting and selling sports cards. I bought and sold cards for 20 years and I am now having much more fun with the rolls and md.
I look forward to many more roll finds and hopefully some more metal detecting goodies.
Good luck to all

WTG, I checked out some old tokens this past week I had collected and was really surprised at what they sell for on ebay. Welcome to the hobby, be sure to share some pictures of the interesting finds you make.

That says something when you're willing to give up a 20-year hobby for roll hunting & MD-ing. There almost needs to be better words than "addictive" or "obsessive." Those tend to have negative connotations. I'll stick with "fun" for now.

My $100 in halves produced a big zilch today. I'm starting to lose faith in my casino as a source for silver. Feels like I'm searching the same stuff all the time. Of course the minute I find a 40% I'll change my tune!

$10 in pennies yesterday coughed up a couple of wheats (1955D & 1956), a shiny, heavily polished 1964 Canadian and a 1979 Lincoln with a hole in the middle. I love coins with holes!

Back in 1995 I was hooked on buying baseball cards, spending a lot of money on them. I'm glad I got sick of that hobby after about a year; packs of cards were about $5.00 each. lol I love metal detecting and coin roll searching much more. I also get more of a thrill finding an old coin than a nice rookie card, or insert card. ;D

Keep up the roll searching Bill, and find that silver. Hi ho silver away! ;D
