I would say anwhere outside of the W,Va./Va.and N.C area would suffice. But seriously if you can afford to take some of the back roads away from the major highways you might have better luck. When are you taking the trip? If you have a week or two you could call to some banks along the way that you have accounts at and see if they will order you in a box. Just give them a day when you will be in and make sure your there or some unnamed CRHer :laughing7: might have to come in pick up what you left behind. LOL. Good luck.

Silverminer, I think Goldensilver is correct. If you come up the normal route, try to just take some exits off the interstate and drive to s small town not far away. Check out all those banks. When you start to get close to West Virginia, only the wesyern part of the state would be worth wild to try. The eastern part of W.Va has mostly been hit. Same for northern Va. near Washington. Stay near the smaller towns on your route. I thin you would have a better chance of getting something. Best of Luck

Any suggestions on banks to stop at as I head north.

I am driving my daughter's car north for her new job.

I thought I might tap into the southern silver veins as I pass by various banks.

Some of the best success humbers I have ever seen have come from LJ in Louisiana. I'd say take time in LA to stop at banks. Then maybe kick up through MS and AL, and continue to hit those southern states. That's where things have been hot. And of course there is silver EVERYWHERE, so any time you get the urge just go ahead and stop. Hit the business loops in medium towns and you'll have LOTS of banks in that long of a trip to stop at.

Silverminer,
I graduated from Bryan Adams--a Dallas school. Lived there nearly all my life, then headed to East Texas where I found the handsome and charming
Mr. Apush. Now I have a difficult time driving in the city!

Mr. Apush and I frequent the casinos in Shreveport every blue moon. Might be worth your try as another member suggested. I now get mad if I lose $20.00 at the casinos and think I could have bought a silver coin instead! I would stop at every bank on the way if Mr. Apush would let me :laughing9:

Good Luck on your Trip!

Thanks for all the great ideas. The good thing is I can take my time finding banks and getting her car to Pa.
I am counting on the fact that there is silver everywhere and this maybe my best chance at a road trip. I just need to share the car with most of her clothing.

I expect to make the trip late June.
Cheers!

A few more helpfull tips from a road warrior. Keep in mind if you hit LJ's territory that she did very well because she had a system set up with tellers. She networked very well. Not saying you won't have the same luck. I will say having lived in Va/NC for my entire life and CRHed here for the past 3 doing road trips that VA is hit hard. Some stuff still gets turned in but it will be hit and miss. Take a look at map and find out some small towns with banks not just off the interstate but well off the beaten path. It is there where you will be lucky. Trust me. Have a ton of cash at your desposal if possible 3,000+. Only ask for half dollars and maybe dimes if it floats your boat. It does not hurt to ask if they have any large dollars. You may end up with a ton of Ike dollars (Clad) but it is worth a try. If a teller asks if you are a collector say "Yes." In my experience they will either tell you there is no silver in the rolls or wait a minute I have something you might be interested in. I have had tellers hand over silver certificates and silver dimes etc just because they were waiting for a collector. Rare but it happens. Oh and if they say I have already searched them...get em anyway. Sometimes it is a lie sometimes they don't know 40% is silver. Good luck.

What time frame are you looking at? It will be tough to dump on an extented road trip. Ordering boxes ahead would be out of the question, unless you want to UPS your dumps to a partner back home. If cash became a problem you could sell 40%ers off at various coin shops. The more banks you hit the longer you will be on the road. the longer you are on the road, the more expenses you will have. I would guess you would need 50+ 40%ers per day to break even.

I suppose that the advantage to it all would be, if you found a bank that produced a good score, the surrounding banks may be good as well. But that could cost you an entire day.
