Re: 5/1/06 nickels

Well someone has to bring up the dull end of the finds I suppose! lol $35 in nickels produced more blah results -

1940
1941
1948
1948D
1953
1957

1986 Canadian

$100 in halves skunked me again today. Maybe it's time to order another box.

1954
1954D
1955D

Re: 5/1/06 nickels

Still no wartime silver but the keepers keep coming. Out of $35 -

1938 (keeper!)
1940
1946 (2)
1952D
1955 (keeper, first one this year!)
1955D
1957D
1958D (2)

1987 Canadian

I've found all the Jefferson nickels this year except the "big five" (1938DS, 1939DS, 1950D) and the silver years 1942S, 1943D & 1945D. And they're next!

Re: May nickels

Hmmm, 10 days into the month and no wartime silver yet. Maybe people are searching nickels more, just like halves. Today's $35-

1939 (keeper!)
1946D
1952S
1954D
1958D
1959D

Re: May nickels

Yeah, at least there have been some keepers. Today's $35 turned up a surprise -

1946
1948
1952D
1954D
1958D
1959D (2)

...and a 1962 impaired proof to go along with the 1962 penny proof I found back in March. Now I've got two-fifths of a proof set! Would be nice if I found the Franklin next. ;D

Re: May nickels

Immy,
I enjoy reading about the nickel finds, but where I live nickles come in $2 rolls. How/why do you get $35 lots all the time? I'm just being nosey.

Happy Hunting

Re: May nickels

I knew I'd get this question eventually. ;)

The reason is two-fold really. I get my nickels straight from the slot machines which take bills as well as coins, so I put in a twenty, a ten and a five then hit "cash out." That part is really just a silly superstition for me. The second reason is a lot more practical. $35 is just about the maximum a casino cup holds. They can hold $40 but you're risking losing some over the edge.

I've carted home as much as $75 in loose nickels but that gets cumbersome, not to mention risky considering some people wouldn't think twice about jumping you in the parking lot.

A little halfed-out today so I tried $35 in nickels -

1940
1940S (2)
1941
1946S
1951
1953S
1954S
1955D
1957D
1958D
1959D (3)

A good random selection and I think this the first time I found four different S-mints.

Since my box of halves comes in tomorrow this should be the last $35 batch of nickels for the month.

1940
1941
1946S
1951
1954D
1956D

Blah results from a blah month. May was definitely the month for halves and not nickels.
