Beginners Luck?

I picked up my first boxes Friday and opened them yesterday. 1 box each of nickels, dimes, and pennies. Findings:

Dimes - Skunk

Nickels- 1938, 1939, 1939, 1941, 1941, 1941-D, 1946, 1948, 1948, 1949, and 1 1964 with edge clipped off.

Pennies - 1918, 1934, 1936, 1941, 1944, 1946-S, 1947, 1950-D, 1956-D, 1957-D, AND 1908 INDIAN!
An Indian Head out of my very first box. As soon as I can figure out how to post pics I will add.

Question, Should I clean my pennies with warm soap and water with a toothbrush or just leave them be?

Sounds about right on the nickel box. As far as dimes, I average 1-2 per box but certainly hit skunk boxes. My skunk boxes usually only go 1 or 2 in a row and then I seem to get back on avg. Your penny box was great! Many have searched pennies for years and never found an Indian Head. Also, most wheats I come across in boxes are 40s and 50s, so all those older dates you found were great!

Unless there is gunk on them, I always leave them be. However, warm soap and water and a SOFT toothbrush probably would be one of the safer ways to clean them without causing too much damage.

I would not use a toothbrush.. Just wash them with soap and water is enough. You just want to be clean enough to handle right? Soap and water is plenty. Toothbrushes will leave abrasion marks.

awesome cent box!!!!! also, i too would not use a toothbrush, just warm water, and handsoap, because dish soap might leave residue. but, i wouldnt even use water or soap usually, because i like my coins completely natural like they were minted w/o after mint cleaning...good luck! keep it up and hh!

I personaly use boiling peroxide to clean my wheats . it gets rid of the green crusty stuf and to my knowledge it does not hurt the coin. I never use any kind of brush on them as it can leave scratches on the coin . It will not shine the coin but it will clean the crap off of it. That is what I do with mine .
