Scored seven Ikes at B of A today. [1977, 1977-D (x2), 1978 (x2), 1978-D (x2)]. The teller couldn't wait to get rid of 'em!

Bad news on the half dollar front. My casino is discontinuing their use. :'( I still might be able to get them once in awhile in the employee vault but that'll only be sporadic. Looks like I'll have to stick to bank boxes for searching. Damn, just when silver started showing up more often too.

Bummer on the halves...You were starting to have some luck with them too! I picked up a whole roll of IKE's today...What should I be looking for with them? HH

Ikes:

- Any S mint mark of course. 1971, 1972 and some 1974 & 1976 S's are 40% silver. Actual silver content is slightly less than a 90% half dollar.

- All 1973 Ikes. They were not released for circulation.

- There are two types of Bicentennials. The lettering on the reverse on the first issues is bold, in low relief (sort of squarish-looking) while the redesign has thinner, delicate lettering. The Red Book has a great example of both. These two types exist on both the P & D.

Went down to the casino cage to buy what they had left (while it lasts) and got $200 worth. Found a 1967 and a 1971-S proof. Woo hoo! But the clock is ticking...

Not to hijack your thread, but is this one the first or second edition? I got it as a prize for our town's Halloween Parade in the early 80's. They gave one to every kid.

That is the more common Type II with the newer lettering. Nice prize back then! Reminds me of the stories of Rockefeller giving out silver dollars to kids back in the Depression.

Sorry to hear about the casino dropping halves, but if it's any consolation, you have done tremendously well in the silver department!! Don't get me wrong though - - there's no such thing as too much silver!! :)
After finding a number of error quarters in $100 of new rolls my wife had stashed away recently, one of my new passions is finding errors. Guess I'll have to buy a Cherry Picker's guide!
As far as the Ikes -- I have a proof 1971, and about a half-dozen or so that were part of the coins I was given as a gift from my mother-in-law last Thanksgiving.

Yeah, you're right Bob. I hope those days aren't over too soon.

I like errors too, but find them a lot less frequently. Nice going on those quarters. Seems "filled die" errors (letters missing) are being found more often.

A friend gave me another Ike today she got as change in a Walmart. It's identical to RatRacer's above example.

Plus...I got a 1944 wheatie in my Albertson's change today. Woo hoo!
