I've been CRHing for about 9 months now, I'm in the SoCal area, and I started marking my coins about 3 months ago, my original mark was a check on the face, and an X on the back, but then I thought that using that mark would decrease the value of it to a collector (someone trying to fill a half dollar folder or something) so I switched to drawing 4 vertical lines down the sides, I usually only mark 1/4th of each box, cause I don't want to mark up to many coins, and it only takes about 5 seconds a roll, so I don't loose much time. But what has seemed strange to me is that I have still not gotten one of these back, I get a lot with 2 lines down the side, but never with the 4 that I draw. I dump my coins at WF, they put them in a coin safe bag and they say that they send them to Los Angeles for counting (all 3 WF branches in my area do the same thing) . I'm thinking this is a good thing cause they are being sent so far, plus my results are consistent here, about 1/4-1/2 OZ per box, and doing 8 boxes a week equals a good chunk a silver. So with the 1k in halves that I am marking per week don't seem to be showing up here. Anyone in Los Angeles get halves with 4 lines down the side or a check on the front and an X on the back?

Keep on marking them up buddy. I think it would be beneficiall to you if you spent extra time marking them so that your mark stands out better than just 4 vertical lines. But really man if i find your elaborate mark i would post it so we all can post on TNET that we found YOUR half dollar.

The only mark I like to see on coins are the words:

"IN GOD WE TRUST"

Keep on Rollin'.

I'm actually thinking about stopping marking them, cause I know that my coins probably wont get back to me for a while, and that was the whole reason for marking them.

I know that guys who mark may mean no disrespect;

But our coins with Liberty and America embossed on them are very like our FLAG to me.

I really hate to see it marked up.

Don't want to argue with anybody about it......that's just the way I feel.

Keep on Rollin' !

Stop wasting your time marking coins . more time searching and less time marking will add to your silver pile . You will still look through the boxes you get even if there marked. I just dont see the point. HH and Good luck.

Marking coins in my book is MESSED UP!

If your going to mark them just draw a line over the face with a Magic marker that can be removed if wanted.

Nothing wrong with marking coins in my opinion.

Provided it's on culls (ie beat up casino coins) with no collector value.

You can remove the marks by using orange cleaner.

People just don't like them because they get frustrated in seeing them especially when there is a skunk box. Besides keeping tracking of dumps. That is the added benefit. Psyching out new CRHers that get a skunk box with marked coins. I don't really care if I see other people's marked coins.. it just tells me that it could possibly be a skunk box if there's a lot of them.

Of course this thread topic will be brought up here over and over again like many other threads on this forum.

The idea as Mentalunrest would put it, to tell the other CRHer, "do more marking, do less searching" LOL

I really don't mind people marking coins, there are a few coins that I really don't like to see marked up like proofs, but on the whole I really couldn't care less. Though, I really don't see the benefit in marking coins unless you go through like 50K a week or so.

I'm in L.A. It takes about four months to get your coins back. I keep some acetone with me while
I'm searching. If the box has a lot of marked coins, I clean em. Marking coins is a waste of time in
L.A. way too many searchers.

not necessarily, I have seen coins come back to me with in one cycle!! if anything it would be fun to mark them with the date so you can see how long it takes!

Even if they aren't your marks, marked coins tell the tellers that are putting them in the coin counter (the tellers that are in the know anyway) that they are searched - good or bad, who knows.

I have gotten a batch of my dump coins back one month later. I dump at a different set of banks than order banks. I figure it was someone that could've gotten my dumps and returned them to my order bank system. It all goes in circles.
