Today's 1K...........MONSTER BAG!!!

Couldn't pick up this week's bag yesterday, as the armored service seems to have changed their schedule, and since I had to get to work, I had to wait until today to pick up this week's coin.

Started pulling clad, and stacking it to roll as usual. Down near the bottom of the bag (it's plastic, see-through) I see a pair of sliver edges. Score! Reach down and pull out 2x40's. While pulling my hand out of the bag, I hear the UNMISTAKABLE sound of silver. HUH? The whole bottom of the bag looks silver! So I reach deep, and pull out a large handful. Twelve (12) 40's in one handful! That went on for most of the rest of the bag. Sure, I had 'skunk' hand-fulls, but I pulled more silver from today's bag than I have in the past YEAR combined. Still can't believe it.

As soon as I can find the cord (I took photos with my phone, only camera I have at the moment) I'll post pictures. But, to whet your appetite: 1x90 Ken, 14x'65s, 51x'66s, 64x'67s, 97x'68s, and 46x'69s. Two hundred seventy-two (272) x 40%, and one 90%. One lonely 90%. I'm not complaining. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

As Riley says, "It's still out there." It darn sure is!!!

Roger

Edit:

Well, the computer isn't 'recognizing' the phone. I plug in the mini USB cable, and nothing. I'll figure it out.

Edit II: Well, I managed to email myself (from my phone) one of the pictures, but I can't seem to receive anymore emails. I sent about 6 more, but they're "lost" somewhere. I'll keep trying.

WOW! Score of the Month! HH I am going to Tenn. for Thanksgiving. Is it hard to get halves down there? I don't have bank accounts with many banks and would be going to banks where I don't have an account.

Roger, those were my dumps. I don't keep the 40%ers. Not worth the trouble. I guess I missed that 90%er. Enjoy it. :tongue3: Just jokin'. Congratulations.

Super hard to get halves in TN. A waste of time ::)

Congrats, Ramjet, you deserve it!

Legend

Some quick math
@ $31.08 oz
Melt of $1261.44
- $136.50 (cost @ .50 each)
-----------------------------------------
$ 1124.94

Not too bad.

Bottom line is the US Mint produced over 800 million 40% silver half dollars from 1965-1969 for circulation. Most never circulated much, and they are hidden in coffee jars and old boxes throughout this country. Waiting to see the light of day.

Congrats on a huge score
HH!!

Re: Today's 1K...........MONSTER BAG!!!

Another update; apparently I can't count. There are 94 x 1967's, not 64 as originally posted. Add 30 to the total.....

Gotta go get my kid.

Later

PS, thanks Legend for posting the picture I texted. I can't seem to get anything from the phone to the PC.

Re: Today's 1K...........MONSTER BAG!!!

Thanks again Legend for putting up the pictures. And as a correction, you can see in the photo of the coins with year and counts, the sign with the 1967 should read "94 x '67". There are nine stacks of 10, and four extra. I was in such a hurry that 9x10=60.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Keep the faith, it's out there. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

Re: Today's 1K...........MONSTER BAG!!!

ramjet,
That is one spectacular bag my good man. I haven't seen a large find like that in quite a while.
I keep telling everyone that it's out there for the finding. Ya just have to keep at it and be patient.
By the way...Thanks for quoting me. Ha! Makes me feel like I'm being heard.
Congrats on a real winner!

ramjet,
Monster score from a monster bag! That is awesome. I'm an old Tennessee born and raised guy, and it's nice to see a good score coming out of the Volunteer State. :icon_salut: :icon_salut: :icon_salut:
Congratulations!
Steve
