I looked through two boxes of nickels today, both skunks. But I did find this one coin that caught my attention. I think it is a proof because of the proof-like finish and I still can see the stairs on the Monticello. It is a 1954, and there is no mint-mark. Advice appreciated.

hard to tell for sure but it sure looks like a nice one. I think I found what I'm pretty sure is a '61 proof nic last month because it has a real glossy finish also.

I'm finishing a pretty good nickel box today myself that I started last night and I'll post my results later this weekend.

Keep on searching & HH

I agree with previous poster. I think it is BU. a NICE BU, but BU. Not proof. If you want to know for sure, take it to someone who knows better than us. Go to a coin dealer who might be able to give you the best answer. :-)

Good luck, and keep hunting those nickels. :icon_thumleft:

I did take it to a coin dealer, and he said that it was a BU nickel, not a proof. Darn, that would of been my second one in better condition then the first.
