    BuffaloBoy's last 6 months

Hello all, there's a reason why I don't post much.

Over the past 6 months, halves have really went down the drain, I've been purchasing 4 boxes or so a month for the past 6 months, and only 1 or 2 of those boxes had a SINGLE 40% silver coin.

Very dissapointing, I was getting some very hot boxes prior to about June.

    Dimes have been bad too.
I guess the silver is just not out there, at least in my area.

Nickels- they've been slow as well, 1 war nickel every 2 boxes, 1 buffalo nickel every 4 boxes. A while back, I had better odds.

-Pennies- they have been consistant, 17-21 wheat pennies per box.

Due to the lack of CWR in my area, I am foreced to search boxes, plus I have some pretty extreme competition in my area, found out somebody is searching 40+ boxes a week of half dollars.

I hope everybody else is having a wonderful 2012!

By reading posts here and recently sounds like you are having a bit of bad luck streak. Another forum I read one fellow had a 12 box skunk streak. Never know when that dream box with multiple enders will be placed in your hands.
If it were easy and we scored keepers everytime it would be called Coin Roll Picking not Coin Roll Hunting.

    BB,

I know you have had some great success in the past. I agree that the competition is heating up everywhere. My boxes have been pretty slow (but still producing a little bit), but most of my scores have been CWR and teller trays lately. I'd give it some time and think about road trips. I'm pretty fortunate to travel a lot for my work. I always seem to pick up a few silver coins on the road.

I hope things turn around soon for you!

Thank you both for the kind words. People think you can get rich from CRH fast, this is the cold harsh truth.
I will not give up, I am determined to get a score eventually.
Best of luck to your searchings, let's make Februrary a silver lined month!

The same for me BB but just when you think your out, the silver halves drag you back in. What a good sickness to have!

    Re: BuffaloBoy's last 6 months

Have you tried searching larger volume and perhaps a different source bank?

I'm not trying to offend you but you're the only person here that reports poor boxes from that area. I obviously don't live there so I can't refute what you're saying. Isn't TimZim (new member here) getting good boxes too? You never thought that perhaps your pickup banks become dumping grounds from CnC & DB since those guys do large volume? If they do 20 boxes a week each and they dump into your pond while you only get 2 boxes a week, what are the odds of you getting poor boxes? I'm sure they shared notes on where to dump so no one wants to dump into each other's ponds. Just a thought.

If you want it that bad, you have to be creative and think outside the box to get it. Of course, my area is just bad now. I got 1 40%er in my last 5 boxes. I've tried different sources and different supply banks, all getting poor boxes. I used to not get my dumps back but I get them quite often now. For a while, I thought my system was good since I didn't get my own dumps back very often but not anymore. Some of these coins I swear I've looked at before (like holed ones that look familiar). Everything just goes in a circle here now.

    I agree with SFBay,

If you can switch it up with some new sources give it a shot. I'm in the same boat myself now. I was pulling some respectable boxes average 2-4 keepers per box and now nothing. I'm currently on what is now a 16 box skunk streak which is my longest ever. My boxes this week had marked coins with 12/8/11. I'm getting the stuff dumped straight in the hopper now. Going to split my order now between two different sources to see if I can break out of this funk.

Keep at it and that box jammed with silver will find you.

    Re: BuffaloBoy's last 6 months

This is all new to me. Its been about 1/2 year.I started with 2 boxes. And got very good boxes. $200 in a few. So i went to 12 And its still good. Next week?? Am doing about 46 to 52. Its not easy but i can't wait to see what i get. I dump all but a few in the same towns where i get them. $2000 in ac every week end at the td bank. And new york every 4 weeks or so I don't think it matters??/ Where you dump. When you get a good box its because some old lady cashed in the old coins. Its as easy as that. The good boxes i have gotten you can tell the silver is all in one spot. As it was dumped in the roller. Good luck to all Tim Zim

    Re: BuffaloBoy's last 6 months

Thanks for the words, SF, I do agree with you, but I have no control over what I dump concerning getting the same coins back. I started searching 1 box of halves a month last January, now I am upto 4 or so per month. I might try to increace it to 6, but dumping becomes an issue.
It takes banks a good 4-5 days from ordering the halves to get them.

Like said before, you just never know when the stash comes in, that keeps me at it.

BB, try to pickup 4-6 boxes at a time if you have the funds

If you only pickup 1 box a week its like flipping a coin ~50% chance

If I flip 2 coins sure each flip is still a 50% chance, but the overall chance that they are both heads or tails is now 1/4

I believe the same is true for halves (note: dont zero in on the 1/2 or 1/4 its just a reference of sorts). The point is if you just get 1 box at a time , its just a random box off the pallet and the odds of it being a skunk are about 30-50% for most people it seems.

It's not uncommon for me to have several 8-10 box skunk streaks per month, but at the end of the month, volume makes up for that in spades, because as you pull larger sample sizes, the odds of finding your "Desired outcome" silver for us CRHunters increases!

    Good Luck,
    Bigheed

I just think you're a great area for this hobby. The boxes around here have gone down the tubes. I've been averaging 1 40%er per 4-5 boxes of late in January. I had one week where I got one 1 keeper per box but the rest of the weeks are just bad. One can do the math. I tried higher volume but my area is pretty much dry now. I figure to put less time into this hobby from now on. I do mark my coins to see how often I get them back. I mark every 90's casino half I see. I pretty much get them back all the time now. Everything just gets recycled around here with boxes. Wish I could somehow ship off a bunch to somewhere else. I think you could be pulling in a lot more if you did more and tried other sources. If I lived over there, CRHing would be nice little part time job. Good luck and let us know your results.

    I will do, SF.

What is your mark on the casino halves? I have a wide vareity of halves from saying "Lombardo" on them, to a purple line up kennedy's collar. Also, circles on the reverse, and thick black marker across the front. And so many more...
