Todays road trip..
Well, went on a road trip to the South and East today. Dont think I will be going back that way anytime soon. I didnt get to hit one city I wanted due to leaving late, it raining like crazy and one bank I have an account with didnt have a coin counter so I had to reroll everything I checked.
Most banks didnt have anything or very little in the way of CRW, be it dimes, quarters or halves. Some banks simply would not do business with me because I dont have an account. Needless to say, over 100 miles later, about 4-5 hours later and I had a whole 2 coins, one from Canada and the other from Barbados.
So, I go hit a couple banks in this one area of a town I fish at a lot. Grab some dimes from several other branches and go hit a bank that paid off for me before. They were the first bank I ever got silver from as a road trip. 14 - 40% in a single roll back in December. Went in and asked if they had any half dollars and the teller said she did and she had some in the vault. She asked, "how many would you like", I replied with, " How many do you have? ". She goes into the vault comes back out and says, "I have $380 in Customer Wrapped Rolls and a bag of $600 from the machine, how many do you want?" I said, I would take all of them. Her jaw dropped, she had to go check with her vault manager. She talks to him and he was surprised and I heard him go ALRIGHT! OUTSTANDING. He was happy that I was taking them so he would not have to ship them out. He was 2 rolls away from doing so. Sadly, I had to pay with some rolls of dimes that I never got to check, about $100 worth but I hope it pays off. The $380 in CWR's might be some of mine from December, I will know for sure when I get completely skunked The bag at least should be worth while.
Going to start searching those shortly.
Oh yeah, now I have a second bank who will be calling me with $1000 bags of half dollars when they get them. They are making this too easy

Re: Todays road trip..
Waiting to hear the results......
If it were easy and we scored keepers everytime it would be called Coin Roll Picking not Coin Roll Hunting.

Re: Todays road trip..
Well, $980 worth of halves searched, every date looked at.
I missed one 40% in the original $380 of CWR's that I searched back in December, I was in such a hurry that I didnt see it during the edge check. In fact, I might have missed it again because it looks like it has a line running the middle of the edge but I edge search and date check everything now.
The bag was a little bit of a disappointment. My hopes got set high when my 3rd handful into the bag brought me Mr Franklin, 1952. I thought this might be a good one with such a early and older pull. Went through the first half with nothing else to show for it. About 3/4th of the way through the bag I am putting coins into my hand when I hear that familiar sound, another Franklin,1953. That would be the last of the silver pulled from the bag. A 1972 with a gold edge got my hopes up as both of the Franklin edges were gold but that was short lived.
So I spent about $15 total in gas and got $30 in silver. Set up a new bank to call me with bags of half dollars, saw some of the country side and now I know not to go SE on road trips.
Ended up a pretty good say.
I cant wait for next week though. I have 8 boxes of halves to do. 4 on Tuesday and 4 on Wednesday. I am also going to try to do around $1000 worth of dimes.
Ron Paul 2012!
PS: This is the second time that same bank has saved my trip from being a total skunk.
