    New Guy, With A Question

Greetings and salutations all around. I've been busy reading from as far back as I could go to the present day since I found this forum, learning much and sitting amazed at some of the finds illustrated.

I am new to the CRH hobby and this forum has been a wealth of information. Which brings me to my question:

What is the silver weight of a 1976-S silver centennial Washington quarter? I happened to find one today amidst one of the several cans of collected pocket change I've accumulated the past couple of years. It had previously been overlooked because it had tinted an attractive if bizarre light green color (mostly to the obverse side) and I never bothered to look closely at it before, rather simply regarding it as one of those things that happens to change under certain circumstances.

Re: New Guy, With A Question

The easiest way to tell if it is a silver quarter would be to look at the edge of it. If it is one solid silver color, then it is silver. If you can see some copper when you look at the edge, then you have a normal proof.

As for weight, I'm not sure. I'll let someone else answer that.

the silver issued is 5.75 grams, it appears to be a 40% coin, similar to the 40% half (11.34 clad, 11.50 40%).

Then you are the master of Google-foo as compared to this lowly Padwan. My searches failed to turn up the info I sought. Good thing we don't all think alike when it comes to search terms.

But of course. How else would one find the silver but by using 'the Force.' (waves hand over rolls, confuses teller with simple mind trick)
