Made A Teller's Day

The lovely bride and I closed our CU accounts because, quite frankly, when they closed their local branch the next location 45 miles away wasn't convenient, and their IRA rate fell drastically (about 90% from when we opened it several years ago). I tried dumping rolled boxes there once when i was over that way on other business, and they wanted my account number on every roll. Left with both boxes and hit a local-to-the-area branch of our primary bank and deposited them there instead.

Between their PITA dumping policy and low rates and lack of convenience any more we said enough is enough, cashed out, and promptly went a block down the street to the local primary branch and deposited the IRA and savings. When the teller asked the usual "Is there anything else I can do for you" I of course asked if he had any rolls he'd care to sell. Halves, he says? Anything from Ikes to pennies and everything in between, I replied.

"How much do you want?" The account is good so I'm pretty sure I can take whatever you can spare," I told him.

Long story/short version this was his last day and he sold me very single roll he had; nickels, dimes, quarters, pennies and a couple of halves. Over $1,700 worth in all with a box each of nickels and dimes in the mix. The lovely bride and I were staggering when we left and he was pleased as punch, as was his supervisor, because they didn't have to inventory anything when they closed.

I barely started when we got home and I've scored a "64 Rosey, a Canadian nickel and penny each, and 1 wheat. Tomorrow I tackle the 4 boxes of halves and over 2/3's of the assorted rolls, but that is a different story.
