After hitting a honey hole last weekend and over the holidays near my dad's cabin and finding out they still have A LOT in their vault (http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,451987.0.html) , I recruited my father to help me clean the vault out. I asked him to go get $250 in halves. He reported back that he only got $200, they wouldn’t give him any more (I wonder if they are being nice and saving them for me and my monthly poker games). I ran up to my dad's place this weekend and managed to stop by and have some awesome Cajun food with a buddy that came with me. We had a great road trip, and managed to find some silver! We also found a 1983 gold plated half that was counter stamped 1960 and 1980. I’ve heard a lot about those, but never found one. Pretty cool! Bought my dad a bottle of good rum for his efforts. Thanks dad!

I wonder where these gold 1960-1980 coins are from. I found one in So. Cal.

I believe they were sold in TV and magazine ads for about 5-10 dollars. Some people realized they were ripped off and just spent them.

Nope, they don't know he's my dad, and more importantly, my 62 year old dad gives another story.
"I'm going to visit my 86 year old mother (true, his mom is 86) and she loves looking through half dollars cause she has one of those books...and has a few years she needs to fill." Female tellers eat that up...they love to see a middle aged man still do sweet things like that for his elderly mother.

I have gotten many of these over the years. I now just dump them. Nice finds BTW. I need to one day stumble upon a nice group like that.

Another member used to always post the definitive answer to this question, but I guess they tired of it...so in the public interest:
