Yes, that is a British penny. I received one from 1940 out of a box of halves once. Many people dislike finding foreign coins in their rolls, I find it as a nice little surprise, you just never knew what that next roll can give you.

Being fairly new to this hobby this was an exciting find for me. the 6 40% is the most I've found but I'm more excited about finding this one cent coin in a roll of halves. I can't find much about it but I'm pretty sure it's British. Is there any value there? What's a good reference site for coins like this?

I love this site for id'ing foreign coins http://worldcoingallery.com/.

Nope, no value to the penny. However, great variation!

Large cents are cool! :headbang:

I found a 1958 Australian Penny in a half dollar roll last year. It was exciting but not valuable.

The problem is that you paid 50 cents for a penny!

99% of the wheat pennies, I find are worth less than 50 cents.

I keep a book of foreign coins that I find.

Broke this one already. Found 14 in my next box. Sad part is the CU that I'm getting them from is cutting me off. They said they have one maybe 2 more and that's all they can do. I have every intention of pleading my case. I have a car loan, credit card, overdraft loan, checking & savings so I think I have a leg to stand on at least. I didn't realize how tough suppliers would be to find.
