Have you completed a set of silver Roosevelt dimes from circulation? If not, how close are you? I have nine left to find but it would be very difficult to finish because I only have low mintages left.

GMan, I have a question. I'm looking into starting nickels and I was wondering what the benefit of saving the pre 1960 nickels is. As I understand it, there is only silver in the war nickels.

None of the dimes have low mintages, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Its been a goal of mine for years, but I still have 5 left if I remember right. 1958, one of the 1949's and all three from 1955 (well technically, I guess my son did get one of the 1955s when we first started, but it is in his collection)

Before 1960, the mintage numbers are lower. Also, it is approximately in line with most other denominations

pennies (wheats end in 1958)
dimes and quarters (silver ends in 1964)
halves (silver ends in 1970)

A few of the key dates or ones in better shape have some value, but I don't think there is a big demand for pre-1960 nickels. For me, so long as I can afford to hold onto them, why not? Some people don't and that's fine with me. Collect what you can afford and enjoy collecting. This is a hobby for me and not a way to make money.

I'll bet I'm either close or have gone through over 1 million dimes and I'm still missing 5 (at least I think it's 5).

Unless you get lucky, it's actually pretty difficult.

nice totals, congrats on the awesome quarter scores, they are hard to come by, as well as the IHP... Keep up your monthly posts, I really enjoy reading them!
