Looks to be a small date. The "9" makes a sharp curve and the 7 looks lower, so it may be. It's always been hard to distinguish a small date from a large date.

I couldn't agree more. Before I found this every other one I found I thought was one. There is no mistaking though when put beside a large date. Also when looked at under a loupe it is very obvious. Thanks for the comment

here another picture and yes it is very time consuming but I enjoy it. I do it in between when I have no hoards of wheat pennies to look through

Congratulations! I found one a while back. And you're right about it being obvious when compared next to a large date.

Finding an error penny gives me a bit of gratification. Even though it is not worth much, in the monetary sense, but it just keeps you hooked as you just found a unique penny which is not like others that look like it but are generic. Thanks about info on the 1970S variety, I will check out mine keepers and see what I find.

Definitely the real deal. Found 1 last year. Tough coin - should be worth more. I love to search pennies, even tho it's not very profitable. Still lookin for my '69 s doubled die!

I save all 1970 S I find in rolls. Check them out later. I've found three small dates. Rest of the large dates I put in my "S Mint Mark Memorials" roll.

My humble little BH Tracker IV. Since I dig absolutely everything (electric lines running to my garage included) I don't feel the need to upgrade just yet. Doing my research first.

Finally, a GOOD picture to compare my roll of 1970 S pennies to!
