Usernameerror's Finds

Rather than making a new thread every time I find something, I thought I would just make a single thread and update when necessary (hopefully often).

I left work early today to hit a bank before going home. I initially asked the teller for CWR dimes. She had $70 in CWR dimes. She also offered me 2 boxes but I declined as I noticed both boxes contained new 2012 P dimes. I then asked if she had any halves. She smiled and pulled $70 in CWR halves from her safe. She told me that a customer dropped them off earlier today and she would be glad to get rid of them. She found it a hassle to count the halves in her safe. I walked away with both dimes and halves.

This bank is in an area that services an elderly population so I was optimistic. I skunked on the dimes but I found a 1964 and 1967 :) the 64 was easy to find but I missed the 67 my first go around. I usually open the rolls and do a quick rim check then move on. The 67 had a darker rim so I missed it. Good thing I always check each half for proofs and NIFCs.

All in all it was a solid day. Good luck to everyone!

Things are turning up! I have a friend who is a teller at a bank and will be ordering a weekly box of halves along with anything else I need. Also had another bank near work order agree to order for me :)

No other CRH finds this weekend. My wife did give me my first ever Peace Dollar as a gift. Also picked up my first Silver Eagle. I think I'll be buying one every week as long as silver remains relatively low.

Good luck everyone!

I picked up the Silver Eagle at a local coin shop. I've never bought one before but it was $33 and some change. I believe the spot was $28.** at the time so it looks to be a $5 premium. Is this normal? I didn't ask into the specifics of how he priced them but he did mention something. I just wasn't paying attention. Hopefully he didn't screw me over.

On another note, picked up $100 in BWR dimes. Went to the car and noticed they were all 2012 P. Oh well. I'll dump them tomorrow! Good luck everyone!

my coin shop charges sales tax, I would rather purchase them online or elsewhere where you don't have to pay sales tax, because here, sales tax on $33 is over $2... so that $33 coin would cost me more than $35 with tax.

by the way, I am liking your 90% ratio of bens/walkers to 90% kenns!

I'll have to call and ask for a better explanation on how he prices. There is another coin shop near me that I can call as well.

I always call around to the different coin shops to see what they are charging for ASEs and go with whoever has the lowest premium. Saves trouble and gas.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'm getting hooked on these Silver Eagles. I'm just wanting to buy more. For investment purposes of course :)

Picked up my box of halves today. Unfortunately it was a skunk. My first skunk ever. Not fond of this feeling. It contained about 13 NIFCs but I didn't keep any.

Also the box contained black and white wrappers. Never seen these in my area. Forgot to ask my teller friend who their supplier is.

Hope everyone has better luck!

Dumped my skunk box today. Got some funny money from the magnet on the coin machine. After dumping I visited some banks to see if I could find some CWRs. One bank had two boxes of halves in their vault. Bought one. Unfortunately it was a skunk. 2 skunk box streak now.

Good luck everyone!

33$ is decent they normally command 5$ over spot. One of the banks I go to has the new ones for 57$ because they bought them when silver was almost 40$ an ounce

Yea not bad. I only have two coin shops in my area and they both sell silver eagles $4.50 above spot.

On another note, my co worker has been keeping an eye out for silver coinage for me. She stopped by a 7Eleven before work today for some coffee. The cashier was going to give her change when she noticed a white "fake" quarter. My coworker immediately knew it was silver. She asked to purchase it but the cashier told her that they put all "fake" quarters in a jug to send to the bank. She then said they had a full jug of these "fake" quarters in the back. The employee tested these quarters by dropping them in a hard surface. She did so in front of my coworker and it was definitely silver. I need to get over there and start begging.

Scored some silver today!

Calls a few banks today to see if any had halves. Didn't want to blindly venture out during my lunch and waste gas and time. Only 1 bank had CWRs. I was told they had $40 worth. The teller pulled the rolls from her safe and they looked old. I got a little excited. I opened them and pulled a 1968D. I'll take it! Silver has been dry for me lately. Good luck everyone!

Can you find the silver?

Happy weekend everyone!

Went back to the bank that had 2 boxes in their vault. I bought one on Thursday that was a skunk. Went back today and bought the other one. The manager would only sell the box to me if I promised not to bring them back. Apparently someone brought the boxes the the branch and they have been sitting there ever since. Strange thing is that both boxes were opened but the rolls weren't. I'm guessing they were from a CRHer that weighed rolls instead of opening.

Well he/she missed one! Pulled a 1968D and a 1969D from one roll! I'll take it!

Good luck everyone!

I've never heard of anyone weighing rolls, you'd have to have a really nice scale for that to be viable.
