Usernameerror's Finds

Rather than making a new thread every time I find something, I thought I would just make a single thread and update when necessary (hopefully often).

I left work early today to hit a bank before going home. I initially asked the teller for CWR dimes. She had $70 in CWR dimes. She also offered me 2 boxes but I declined as I noticed both boxes contained new 2012 P dimes. I then asked if she had any halves. She smiled and pulled $70 in CWR halves from her safe. She told me that a customer dropped them off earlier today and she would be glad to get rid of them. She found it a hassle to count the halves in her safe. I walked away with both dimes and halves.

This bank is in an area that services an elderly population so I was optimistic. I skunked on the dimes but I found a 1964 and 1967 :) the 64 was easy to find but I missed the 67 my first go around. I usually open the rolls and do a quick rim check then move on. The 67 had a darker rim so I missed it. Good thing I always check each half for proofs and NIFCs.

All in all it was a solid day. Good luck to everyone!

It makes sense, and it's an interesting method, you'd just need a decently accurate scale.

Some clads can be thicker and weigh more, and you could have one less coin in a roll, making the weighing off, and potentially missing a silver.

Here is a good one:

Jennings JScale HP-100X Gram Precision Digital Pocket Scale 100g x 0.01g with 100 Gram Calibration W--Tools-Measuring, Levels & Stud Finders-Precision Tools

If you were weighing rolls, you could also check the height against a known value to know if you're short. Definitely some possibilities for missing some silver coins.

1 box of halves with black/white wrappers = skunk (3 NIFCs)

I still have 1 box of nickels to go through but it looks to be solid 2012 :BangHead:

Good luck everyone!

Garda in my area, and believe me, the rolls truely resemble their colors, a crapload of black and whote half dollar skunks, just broke a 30-box skunk streak with the black and whites.
Picked up my box of halves today. Unfortunately it was a skunk. My first skunk ever. Not fond of this feeling. It contained about 13 NIFCs but I didn't keep any.

Also the box contained black and white wrappers. Never seen these in my area. Forgot to ask my teller friend who their supplier is.

Hope everyone has better luck!

Hello everyone!

One of my pick up banks did not receive the box of halves they "apparently" ordered for me. However they did have $160 in CWRs. I did get lucky a few weeks back with CWRs from this same bank. Apparently a guy comes in every few weeks and cashes a bunch of halves. Last time I found a 90%er and a 40%er. Today I found x2 40%ers. 1967 and 1968D. I'll take it!

Whoever this person is. God bless them for keeping my silver addiction alive. Boxes have not been so kind to me.

Good luck everyone!

My first teller tray finds!

Stopped by a random bank on a whim today. Asked for halves and the teller had $3.50 worth. I was worried because she started rim checking the coins. She seemed to notice something different but brushed it off and handed me the coins. I heard the delightful "clink" of silver! Found a 1968D and a 1969D!

Good luck everyone!

Greetings everyone!

June was an "average" month by my standards. I really wanted to pick up my volume but one of my banks is not cooperating with me. Since last posting I've done 1 box of halves which was skunk.

Today I did $100 in CWR nickels. Did not find any War Nicks but I did find my second Buffalo. Unfortunately its dateless. Also found a bunch of pre-1960s. Most notable are 1941S,1947S, 1950 and 1953S.

Have a great 4th of July everyone!

Im just getting started with getting coins from banks and searching for silvers. I really have no idea how this all works. Do you pay face value for the coins? Or if I get $200 in halves, and they are all normal, did I lose money? Thanks!

No you take that 200$ in halves back to the bank for a different 200$ in halves.or any other denomination.

Also, you don't pay more than $200 for the halves. A bank may charge fees, just try to find a new bank if they do that.

Greetings everyone!

Had a good day of CRHing today! Visited two banks to pick up dimes and nickels. Picked up $100 in BWR dimes and $20 in BWR nickels from bank 1. Picked up $100 in CWR dimes and $30 in CWR nickels from bank 2.

The $20 BWR nickels from bank 1 produced a 1943P war nickel!

Bank 2's CWR dimes were very interesting. I pulled a 1961 Roosie and a 1957 Canadian Dime from two different rolls. My first foreign silver!

There was also one dime roll wrapped in a really old wrapper. I got really excited when I saw the teller pull it out of her safe. I saved it for last and I'm glad I did. Pulled 4 silver Roosies from that roll. All 1964.

Interesting thing about the old wrapper roll was that the newest dime in the roll was a 2012P. This must mean that someone decided to cash in an old coin jar and had 10 year old wrappers lying around. I'm going to go back tomorrow and ask for any rolls in old wrappers.

Good luck everyone!

The rolls look more than 10 years old. I hope there are many more for you like that. Congrats on your first foreign silver.

Thanks! I didn't get a chance to visit the bank today but will try again on Monday.

Hello everyone!

Another good day for silver!

Visited 5 banks today for nickels and dimes and whatever halves were available.

Bank 1: $1.00 loose halves = SKUNK
Bank 2: $50.00 BWR dimes = All 2012P
Bank 3: $20.00 BWR nickels = 2 pre-1960's / $00.50 loose half = SKUNK
Bank 4: $20.00 CWR nickels = 6 pre-1960's
Bank 5: $100.00 CWR dimes = 1947 Roosie in excellent condition and still has original luster / 1949D Roosie

AND....$3.00 loose halves from teller tray. ALL silver! 1965(x4), 1967 and 1968D

Bank 5 is where I stumbled upon a collection dump of 25 90%ers including Franklins and Walkers when I first started CRHing. Apparently someone keeps cashing in silver halves for FV.

Good luck to everyone!

I don't think they will catch on, but you might wear out your welcome if you come too often.
