unable to metal detect earlier today due to rain.
went to 4 banks to pick up some rolled coins to search through.

$7 loose and $30 rolled half dollars - nothing found.

approx $80 in dimes. Also probably shorted at least $1 due to bad customer made rolls.
The one roll I counted as obviously short was 4.60. Nothing found in all rolls.

$20 in nickels. found a dime in roll. Maybe they were short on nickels.
Found foreign coin chile 10 pesos - 2010. same width but thinner and bronze color.
1938, 2x 1939, 1940, 1948, 1957, 2x 1959

no rain this afternoon - dumped all the coins above into coin counter at bank.
After $6 in halves the machine had a full bag.
He fixed it and said that will take a while to fill up (seemed like over $1000).

Got another $150 in halves at a different bank. No silver. Dumping tomorrow.
can get as much as I want they are trying to get it out of their safe.
One branch of same bank will only give you $500 boxes. I asked them to split it up and they said no.

went detecting for 2 hours found 2 memorial cents and some kind of jewelry/pin.
(plus some trash)

Did last $20 in nickels got no silver, 1960 x 2 and 1958
worst rolls ever mostly 1990s and 2000's.

still have $10 pennies in customer made rolls to search. taking a break, will add results later.

update
Dump of previous halves and nickels - got another 200 in halves
searched through them and nothing found.

I was told they have $130 in halves and $130 in Eisenhower dollars left in their safe.
will dump coins at counter bank and get these last coins tomorrow.

Dumped coins and bag was full this time after $76 in halves. Someone else in town is CRHing and dumping at my bank.
Got 37 cents from a previous customer who didnt check returns.

Other bank misled me to think they had Eisenhower dollars (they were regular new $1 coins) so no go.
got 150 in halves already searched ready to return.
nothing found just one 2001 and 2007 but in bad shape.
Also got a coin with sticker for easy street cafe or something shown on here before.

time to dump them.

My feepay used coin sorter arrived today.
tested it on a roll of pennies seemed to do okay picking out the zinc from copper.

made an offer on ebay which was low and they accepted.

I would have probably bought one from rudys deals otherwise (pulled from slots) had I done more research before making offer

I also could of had my pick of some of the loose sacagawea dollars and a susan b anthony coin.

A lot of ppl start out with that comparator (CH268-T). Some stick with it, others try something different.

There is a trick to manually feeding coins into those types of comparators. Take the smallest c. . . Make an opening that is . . . The idea is that you can . . . more efficiently than dropping them into the slot.

Sorted 20 rolls of pennies ($10).

Using a 1981 penny as the comparison coin and the default settings as it was shipped to me.
Checked all the good tray and some of the zinc tray. There were some issues with the sorted output
found 3 dimes - one in the bad tray and 2 in the good tray.


In the good tray there were 4 coins newer than 1981.
In the bad tray there were many 1981 coins, all the wheats (saw 3 so far), plus a few coins which were damaged but old.

will try tweaking or using a zinc coin later.

What are you using? I bought a coinalyzer. I love it. It is very accurate. If you are gonna use dimes on it try setting sensitivity to high and making it more tight instead of slack. This will kick silver dimes and for some reason canadian non silver (pure Ni) dimes to the good tray. Works for me.

And Madwest I may try that. I tried using a slide hooked to a cheap coin counter and couldn't get it to work very well.

Don't be afraid to change the sensitivity. You'll get better results if you find the right setting.

Most 1982 cents will be a match to the 1981. Any date after 1982 is a sorting error.

See above I was using a CH - 268T coin comparator.
that guy is just selling the same item with a name he invented.

Updated my settings

went from Low to High sensitivity.
Turned more toward tight VR tuning since it was in middle.

My pulse duration is on short. Could this have something to do with the speed of coins passing the comparator.
I feed the coins by hand right now.

Do you know your pulse duration setting (switch on front)?

Long (100 ms) - Common 50 ms - Short 20 ms
Left - Middle - Right

Out to get more pennies for testing.

searchesd $20 nickels and found my first buffalo (date worn off)
1940, 2x 1953, 1958, 1960, 3x 1961.
also kept nice looking 1965.

There were two different alloy compositions for wheat cents (Cu/Sn and Cu/Zn). It is expected that the early date wheat cents will not match to a Cu/Zn memorial cent if the sensitivity is set high.

1973-1977 memorial cents often reject when compared to a typical Cu/Zn reference coin. I would say that your accuracy results are as good as you can expect.

It is copper, just like our pre-1983 cent.

Finally finished and dumped the $25 box of pennies and 13.50 in loose rolls.

Had to do it in two stages.

stage one - used a 1981 copper penny as comparison coin
pulled out most copper coins and newer wheats (40's and 50s) plus older canadian cents in accept tray
Any rejects were thrown in a bag for stage 2.

stage two - used a 2001 zinc penny as comparison coin
pulled out the handful of 1970's copper cents and older wheats (got 1920,1937,1938) in rejects
any matches were dumped back at the bank.

will get another box later.
