According to HobBob's post, we have together found, just this year, over 68 pounds of silver in the coin rolls we've hunted.

Let's all make a great effort to have a total of 100 pounds this year. I realize 75-80 pounds is probably more realistic, but I'm still hoping there are some participants in this forum who haven't submitted their totals.

What do you think? Can we make 100 pounds?

That next 32 pounds could be 3462 40% halves or 1416 90% halves or 664 silver dollars (what a sweet dream) or a combination of these.

C'mon guys, I think we can do it. I think I'll be good for another pound or two, if things continue to go well.

I say let's go for it! We've got a few things in our favor too.

If my average of 85 40%-ers and nine 90%-ers per month holds up I should be good for a couple of pounds. Plus I have two weeks vacation in December which means hitting the casinos every day!

And last year we noticed an increase in totals prior to the holidays because people were cashing in lotsa change for extra cash.

And if we find ourselves coming up short we can always use troy weight, which is only 12 ozs. per pound. In fact, if we use troy now, we're at just over 91 lbs.

Well, I just figured out that I have enough credit I can get as many as 10 boxes at a time, though I do not plan on going that far.
I am going to boost my orders to $1000 a week though. What the heck, I am not actually losing money. Better to use the credit to earn some cash, and of course paying my card within a week with a grace period of 30 days, there is no interest either.

So if the Silver Gods look favorably upon me for the rest of the year, I will be able to contribute for sure!

I wish you guys great luck. Hope the goal can be obtained. If I can just get out of here and get some real banks I will rejoin all of you in clearing out silver.

Smithrow - you gotta tell us how you've done so well in this hobby. Wow! I thought my numbers were good - you put me to shame. Was this mostly box-hunting or cleaning out banks or casino hunting? I gots to know!

Killerwine - That's what I call optimism. Good luck! Can't wait to hear how you do.

Immy - Thanks for the info. It never occurred to me that halves would be turned in around the holidays. Great tip!

Everyone - Make sure HobBob gets your totals!

What with Smithrow's numbers, we may have to shoot for 125 lbs!!!

Was a little short of the 10-15 lbs. Did get two rolls of halves and 17 loose. Got 1 40% from the rolls and a very nice 1964 Kennedy from the loose... ;D

I started looking thru Halfs 2 years ago in Dec(2004). I read about it in Coin World(Found in Rolls). So I went to my bank and got $110 in Halfs and I found 10-40% and 4-90%. My 2nd bank I went to had $600 in Halfs and I hit the JACKPOT over $400 was silver. I think $10 in 90% and the rest was 40%. I was hooked.

In the last 2 years I have traded my found silver for the following keys:

1942/1 Vf mercury dime
1916-d Mercury g-4
1916-d Mercury ag-3
1913-s Barber Quarter ag-3
1923-s Quarter f-12
1919-s Quarter Vf

Also many semi keys

What I do is clean out all the banks of halfs first then hit them once a month and also hit certain banks every week. These are the banks that give me the greatest silver returns. I get about $300-$500 a week to search this way. Also I have been getting $500 a week in boxes. In Oct I got another bank to get me $1000 in Hafs every 2 weeks and just this week I found another bank that will order me $1,000 a week. So now besides whats turned in to the banks. I will be searching about $7,000 a month in boxes starting this month before it was only 2,000.

My other suggestion is to know what rolling services each branch uses. The bank I bring my halfs back to uses a different rolling service then the bank I order from. Also I return my coins in $1,000 because they ship when they get $1,000. Last is to use the bank you have your mortage in to return your coins. I like to see the tellers face when I return Half Dollars to pay my mortage.

Every month I go to a local coin show and use my found silver to get my coins for my collection. When the wife asks how much did you spend and I say only the dollar to get in. She says trading your silver arnt you.

Well as you can see I'm hooked
