North Carolina road trip yields some silver! a semi-key date too!

    Hi all,
I went on a mini-vacation carolina last week, a few days just to get out and away from the usual stuff... did not do too much with banks, but I guess I can consider it a road trip!

I went to in all 6 banks...
Bank 1: $1 in halves, no silver...
picked up a box of pennies($13.50 garda, $11.50 CWR)

Bank 2: no halves, picked up a box of pennies(brinks)

Bank 3: $7 in halves, skunk,
picked up 1 box of garda pennies

Bank 4: $1 in skunk halves, could not supply me with coin as they told me they had literally $12.50 in pennies and $56 in nickels

Bank 5: $1 in skunk halves , denied me without an account.

Bank 6: no halves, picked up a box of dimes, chatted with the teller for a little bit and walked out with a box of nickels too!

All in all, 40 wheat pennies, oldest being 1937, a 1964 silver roosie, and a 1945d war nickel... no skunks besides the halves.
also in the nickels, what seems to be an error??

Also got a semi-key date I needed for my nickel book, and it is a beauty... a 1939-d nickel, second lowest mintage of the jefferson nickel series, only 3.5 million minted!!

Pics added, got the scanner to finally work!

Nice on that key date nickel. What is the approximate condition of that one?
So out of 3 boxes you've got 40 Wheats, correct?

yes, 40 wheats from 3 boxes... i actually have the numbers too... note: the one box had $13.50 in MWR and $11.50 in CWR.
    $25 Pennies(Brinks) 18 wheats (1935)

    $25 Pennies(Garda) 10 wheats (1937)

    $13.50 Pennies(garda) 7 wheats (1942)
    $11.50 Pennies(cwr) 5 wheats (1942)

based off of my redbook, the nickel appears to be between ef40 and au50, book valued between $12 and $26

That's a real nice 39d... Looks a lot like my 50d I pulled a few months back. That must have come from a collection - it doesn't stay that nice in circulation for 70 yrs! Some kid probably just got yelled at by his dad for spending that.

I was about to pass it over as a 1959d but I always take closer looks because the 5's and 3's in 1939 and 1959 look the same, especially after 1500 previous nickels

It looks especially the same when they are worn down.
1/100 of an American dollar is a cent. It is NOT a penny. The word penny is used by several other countries, such as Great Britain, to denote their smallest denomination. In order to be numismatically correct, you must use the term cent to describe the American coin.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
    ― Edmund Burke
