1972 penny silver?

Im not sure but was unrolling my first box and i found a coin that looked pretty white in the roll I thought it was going to be a dime but it was a 1972 penny. Whats it worth?

shoulld I buy it or just take it to a coin shop?

You can take it to coin shop, just make sure it is a legitimate one (authorized for sending to PCGS, ANA members, etc.). My friend's cousin bought a silver Maple leaf at a coin shop in Florida for my friend. The coin was clearly copper-nickel and not silver.

Chemistry classes have been plating pennies for a long time, probably with silver or nickel. my guess is it's just electroplated. sometimes you can tell because you have to suspend the penny in solution, therefore the penny may have one or two clamp marks on it, where whatever you were using to suspend it blocked part of the surface from being in contact with the Ag or Ni solution. I've seen some good ones though where you can't see these marks. Chances are this penny is plated = 99.9999%
