Hello - I've noticed that HobBob has a very popular post that has everyone reporting the amount of silver they've found - it's pretty amazing that there's still that much silver out there! I'm going to try to take it a step further, and see what percent of the coins we search are silver. So report to me your total number of coins searched, and the number of silver coins you've found, and we should be able to get a good idea of what percent of coins out there in circulation are silver, and are in desperate need of rescue! If you don't have exact numbers, that's fine, we'll still get a good idea of what's out there. I'll start it off with my numbers and a graph - It's interesting that I started out with a bang, and since I haven't had that great of success lately, it's dropped to 5% of my coins being silver - but I know that 1 coin per roll (5%) is still pretty high, so it'll probably drop even further (hopefully not too far though!)
BTW-My reason for this is that I'm a Fish Ecologist, and I do a lot of work with "catch per effort" using fish catch data, and I just think this kind of thing is interesting - hey, I'm already a nerd for being a scientist, why not go all the way with coin roll hunting, right?
My Totals:
Halves:
5020 coins = 131 40% JFK (2.6% of coins),
1 90% JFK (0.02%)
1 Walker (0.02%)
Dimes:
500 coins = 1 silver (0.2%)
i'll update this as everyone's numbers start coming in.....
UPDATED 12/4
Reported to me so far:
Searched: 264605 coins ($132,302.50)
Found:
2273 40% JFK = 0.8590% = 1per 116 coins (~ 6 rolls)
338 90% JFK = 0.1277% = 1per 783 coins (~ 39 rolls)
76 Franklin = 0.0287% = 1per 3482 coins (~ 174 rolls)
31 Walker = 0.0117% = 1per 8536 coins (~ 427 rolls)
1 Barber = 0.0004% = 1per 264605 coins (~ 13230 rolls)
(the graph below is for my coins only....i've dropped well below the 5% mark it shows, but i don't know how to remove a picture from a post!)
