Coolest hunt yet, grand dads "junk" collection from the war

Happy 4th everyone! My father gave me a cup full of coins this afternoon, weighed about a pound or so. (I consider this CRHing, it was like looking through a bag of coin from the bank :laughing7:) I am told my grandfather collected these while in the NAVY during and after WWII, and also during travels after leaving the military. Many of the coins were CuNi or steel from all over the place, but I did find these gems.

50%

1923 one florin
1941 one shilling
1942 one shilling
1924 sixpence
1939 sixpence

80%

1953 1/2 Swiss Frank (actually 83.5% fineness)
1947 Canadian dime
1939 Canadian quarter
1950 Canadian quarter
1953 Canadian quarter
1964 Canadian quarter

92.5%

1918 three pence
1875 one shilling
1917 Canadian quarter

Nice finds! What were the other CuNi or steel coins? Some of them, primarily the non-steel ones, could have some collectors value. You can PM me with the list of those if it is long and I can tell you the value of them. What would the 1875 shilling grade as? It could be worth more than melt. The sentimental value is definitely greater than the silver value anyway.

My grandfather also collected coins and gave me his collection. It consisted of some modern coins (from travels) and Polish commemoratives, including over an ounce of silver in total. The non-silver coins were all in BU condition (my grandpa bought them from the mint).

What is interesting about your 1875 shilling is on the reverse you can see the die number under the wreath and before the date

Some die numbers are rarer than others, though I'm not sure which ones are "key" on the '75 shilling.

Looks like the die number is 53.

I did go through most of the non silver. One coin is a Cuban cinco centavos, 53 I think. There were also a couple 1940 Pennys but neither had the singe line.
