i never ask for small dollar coins, but if the teller insists on me buying them, i will. I only save the 1999 susan B's, i believe their mintages are significantly lower then other circulation years. still not worth a premium by any means though, sometimes they're only worth a quarter :laughing9:

I collect all but '79. Unless its a near date then I keep it. I got a roll from my mom's safe deposit box and got 5 really nice near dates. :)

When I was collecting a roll of each presidential dollar, I would buy any and all Susan B's the teller had. This was more of a "Hey thanks for selling me the rolls I need for my set, let me take those off of your hands so you don't have to count those nightly." After checking for 81's and 99's I would then dump them in the coin machine and off they went!

I found a few '80 and '99s but they came out of a bucket that was in a house that burned down... then they sat outside my girlfriend's house and her grandpa threw cigarette butts in it... then it filled up with rain water and sat for about 3 years. Nasty nasty nasty. Salvaged a few of them but most got spent.

Please tell me this is worth something lol. While at the bank today I asked if they had any halves in the tray. The teller checks all trays and comes back with one. As I've been told always buy it I did. I gave hear a buck and she says thank have a nice day. Confused, but not wanting to end the transaction on a bad note I just put it in my pocket and left without change. Checked the coin and saw it was a Susan b. lol, ok at least I didn't lose .50
But I just checked the date while reading the thread and it's a 99' w/ D mint mark. Looks like one of the lower runs....is it worth keeping?

I found my first Wide Rim Susan B. last weekend. I don't always ask for them but when I see some sitting in a teller's tray I'll pick them up. I was wondering how many of you ask for these when you go to the bank?

The only Susan B.'s I ever get is from my tiny little hometown bank. Everytime I go in there looking for halves, I buy all their "nuisance" currency - mostly small dollars and $2 bills - in the hopes that they will save any half dollars that come in for me, and call me when they get them. Even though I do not believe that they save anything for me (have never received a single phone call, nor scored a half from there in over a year), they will happily "trade out" with me. By that I mean that I can take them searched boxes of quarters, dimes, nickels, and/or cents and swap for fresh boxes.

If a teller asked for me to take them, I would (AT MY PICKUP BANK), then check them, and dump them at my dump bank the next day.
