I know a 1969 D half is 40% silver but..........

I found 2 of them and they both have a very feint copper look & shine along the edge. They do not have the deep copper band like all clad does, but definitely light copper shine.

Is this normal or have I found a 69 struck on a clad planchet?

Well, one thing is for sure: Yes they are 40% silver.

I have opened a roll before and seen no silver when looking at the edges....then when checking each coin have found silver halves before....you can be fooled...

I would venture to say you have nothing really collectable....just a slightly different edge color, thats all...

I have found several like that in several different dates. A couple of times I thought they were regular clad looking at them from the edge, but found out different. Don't know what causes that, but it is a relatively common occurance that happens due to outside influences while in circulation. They may have seen more circulation than most. Just guessing.

Sorry to burst your bubble but...

It is a 40% silver half... hence the other 60% must be clad, am I right?

Based on this conclusion, we can assume that the rim must also be about 60% clad too, am I right?

Also, note the difference between a BU 40% silver rim and a BU 90% silver rim. Its a big difference...

When they are in circulation for a while the copper dulls and looks gray. Yours probably haven't been exposed to a lot of wear.

Its normal thats why I also check the dates because you can be fooled.
