With grad classes ramping back up in another week, I've been spending as much time scouring different areas for halves. Results from last week or so:

$110 CWR: 3x 90%'s and 4x 40%'s

$1,800 CWR: 1x 40%. And by far the oddest find, $200 in gold plated halves. Mostly all from 2010 and 2011, with stickers ranging from I love Lucy, to Prince William, to Snoopy...

8 Boxes: 3x 40%'s, one of which was a nearly flawless 1970!

$10 CWR: 1x 90% and 1x 40%

4 boxes: First three, zilch. Colder than a winter Minnesota morning. Box 4 heated up rather quickly. 6x 40's and 3x 90's, including a 64 Ken, 62 Ben and a no-mint mark 1938 in flawless condition. Some minor toning on the reverse, will take it to LCS to for opinion on whether it was cleaned. All facial figures are perfect.

Will post pictures up tonight. 8 Boxes Saturday, 4 more Tuesday.

Happy Hunting.

Are you cold calling banks or just stopping by? I'm just wondering how in the heck you are picking up $1800 in CWR at a time. When I go out, I'm luck to find $30-40 at a time. Thanks!

I just happen to stumble upon a fellow CRH'ers dump area. I stopped in one day and was told an older couple brings them in from time to time. Picked up a sampling from a few different branches to test the waters...

Most of the time Otl, it's teller tray that have anywhere from 1-6 halves or a random roll here and there.

Question for you, do you visit branches where you do not have an account? Certain banks have a "we do not exchange currency" rule, where I can't even exchange $1 for 4 quarters to pay the parking meter.

I tried to do that once, I wanted to split a $20 into a $10, a $5, and 5 $1, but they asked me for an account. Really, how does this cost you? I understand ordering coins, but changing a bill?

When I'm out bank-hopping, I stop at every bank I come across whether I have an account there or not. The absolute worst thing that can possibly happen is they say, "No." which results in the same exact outcome as not stopping at all would have. There's nothing to lose really. I have found that even banks with the "we do not exchange currency" rule will often be so happy to get rid of those nuisance half dollars that they will sell them to me. Occcasionally it takes some reassuring from me to the head teller/branch manager that I will take them all and not bring them back, but I can usually get out of the bank with the goods. Being nice and polite pays big dividends here. Only 3 or 4 times in my lifetime have I been denied and I've visited hundreds of banks in a few different states.

I tried to pick up some rolls at a few banks in the Cumberland gap area last year. Both banks I stopped at wanted to charge me 10 cents per roll (And I was trying to get cents). But that is the only time I have been told there was a fee.

Yeah, I do visit banks where I do not have an account. I just try to flash my best smile and see what happens. Better than half the time it works. In fact, one of the banks that orders for me weekly, I don't even have an account there! But I also have about six different bank accounts all over the city just so I can walk into most branches and not worry about it. Each account only has a couple hunder bucks in it though ;-) HH!
