Looks like someone shot it with a small caliber bullet, maybe a .22 or a nail gun. Something stupid. Wish they would have left it alone and would've been a nicer find.

It was punched with a nail... and it was probably done over 100 years ago when that coin wasn't anything special numismatically.. it would be tied on a string and sewn into clothing because people were so poor, they couldn't afford to even lose a cent. That would have bought just shy of pound of potatoes in 1900... enough lunch to live another day.
