Coin Moving Equipment

Hey guys was curious on how you all pick up your coins, I have just been lugging them into and out of the banks and its a little bit of a pain to me and i'm sure much more of a pain to the poor girls that get the boxes for me. I was wondering how you guys move coins. Do you use a dolly or cart of some sorts for deliveries and pickups? If so where would be a good place to buy a nice one? I don't think a full sized dolly will fit into my cars trunk so trying to hear all options on the subject. I would need something to carry 4-8k in halves at once if possible.

I use a little dolly. It can handle right around five boxes of halves. Perfect size, stays in my trunk.

A really strong 5 gallon bucket is a good way,it has a good handle and is deep,a couple of boxes could fit in there.

I carry upwards of 4 boxes out at a time by hand, open up the door of my car ( still carrying the boxes ) and put them in the front seat. Its good exercise.

You're a stronger man then I am EE. Two boxes at a time is my limit. Of course having pulled a back muscle a half dozen times is no help.
It would be a small, foldable dolly for me if I where picking up lots of boxes at one time.

This is the cart I use to move coin. They say it's good for 150 Lbs. It not the most sturdy but it will move 4 boxes of halves. I don't push the 150 Lbs. mark anymore since I had to replace the wheels after 2 weeks. Anyone that has one of these knows what I'm talking about. Cost under $30 and folds up real nice. For the price it works okay. The most I move from one bank is 8 boxes so at that bank I just make 2 trips.

I dont have room for a dolly in the car, with all my fishing gear, last thing I need is more stuff. The back seats are folded down year round and filled with gear lol.

As for pulling muscles, I know the feeling. I do it somewhat often in my neck and shoulders.

The weight isnt too much of an issue, I work as a machinist and plasma torch bed operator. I mess around with heavy metals all day. More than anything, being tired at the end of the day is an issue. if you can carry two cloth bags of halves ($1000) per hand, 4 brinks boxes of halves should not be an issue.

Depending on how much coinage I order, the banks usually loan me their dolly. If they do not, I ask them outright if they have a dolly I can borrow.

I don't mean this to sound insulting, I apologize if it is. This is a horrible idea, if you have a dolly to go under the bucket its fine. A member by the name of Cyberdan, used to haul buckets of cents up and down his staircase, and ended up getting a hernia. Real health risks involved, stick to the dolly, or make multiple trips.

Home depot sells a folding hand truck for $25 dollars there pretty good.I put 8 boxes all the time. You just can't push it over curbs the wheels break with 8 boxes.Thats 200lbs 4 to 6 are ok.

I just take this postal bin with me, people think I'm there to get the mail, lol, it says on it 60 lbs, but I have loaded it with 6 boxes plenty of times and had to let it drop off the curb out front, no problems yet in 5 months.

This one was the one I used at first and moved up to 6 - 8 boxes at a time. At one bank a hyper manager put 10 boxes on and it bent a little, but was still fine. I kept using it for up to 8 boxes, and love the little thing.

That last one is convertible to be a 2-wheel dolly or 4-wheel cart. I can put a Rubbermaid container on it as a cart and wheel in 18 or so bags of halves. I can also pick up 12 boxes using it as a dolly and it is stable. The little collapsible dolly sometimes spilled 8 boxes 'cause it was short and wobbly.

I generally stick with the "as much as I can carry" method, this not only ensures that you're not getting too greedy, but it also makes the load easier on the tellers. If I can, I always try to meet the teller outside of the vault to shorten their walk... a few banks I use have let me into the vault a few times if I came closer to closing(with their supervision and the manager's approval of course).

I do not mean to be a stickler but I think there may be potential ramification in using US mail supplied for personal use. Not that it is not done regularly but I would not advertise it on the internet
