Now don't call me crazy, but I think I truly lost my marbles. But I think I'll just start going through pennies because I can get a lot more of those than anything. Search other stuff when I can, but gather wheats for .03 cents each and trade them in at the local coin store for silver. I think it's a slow but SURE way of getting silver over time. :)
Going tomorrow to see if I can't trade wheats for silver. I got a few hundred sitting around.
Opinions?
Wicka. :)

Go into your LCS and become friends with the whoever works there. I go into my LCS at least once a week just to look around. I know all the employees by name and they know me. The owner usually gives me a discount on what he is selling just because he knows me. I got a morgan dollar last week for $48 that he was selling for $55. If you can get in with the owner of the shop he may be more willing to buy your wheaties from you at a price that would make sense. You may even be able to set up a trade plan where you trade in a certain amount of wheats for a certain amount of silver. Try it out and it may work. Good luck and don't give up. I wish that I would have started when I was 16. You sound like a smart kid so just hang in there and try out your original idea. You obviously have better instincts than most 16 year olds if you are already buying silver instead of the crap that my 15 year old buys with his money. Trust your instincts and at least try them out before you move on to something else. HH.

Wicka, search what's available to you. Save your wheats. Get a summer job and buy junk silver. Remember, crh is a fun hobby but with the time and gas involved, it's more cost effective to just buy the silver.

My idea worked! (Some)

I sold my 1950's and 1940's wheats. A total of like I don't know.. Maybe 200 or so. Sold those for 3 cents each. And sold 4 of my key date nickels I found roll huntin for 17$ for the 4.
So with that, and some other money's. I bought an almost uncirculated 1943 merc dime. For 2$ ;D below spot? Win! He just didnt want to get change out of his pocket. Also bought an 1888 O morgan for 30$. :)
Have a good day.

Going to ask sometime next week if I can trade my rosies for his mercs. He has a "mixed" bag of barbers/rosies/mercs that are all just "junk silver" Figure I'll trade my (common date) rosie collection for a (common date) merc collection! Why not right? Maybe it'll be good.
Who knows!

Thanks for sharing the pics! Those sure are two good looking coins!! The only 2 Mercs I have are ugly compared to that one. Keep it up! HH

Thanks Florida! Next time I go, I think I'll get a Peace dollar, and 2 silver dimes instead of a morgan for the same price. The premiums on morgans are kind of high for me.
Happy Hunting!

Only downside would be trading Rosie's with little wear for common mercs with a lot of wear. I'd be picking out my worn Rosie's to trade.

Did you see the condition of the Merc I got? ;D Almost Uncirculated. He had badly worn barbers/mercs/rosies in the bag. I'm sure he'd be okay with it. :-)
Thanks though!
