Sleepy's Most Wanted (Roosevelt Dimes)

After having searched through $7,110 worth of dimes, I figured I'd get a Whitman Coin book (1946-1964 Dimes). I'm going to make it my goal to fill it by the end of the year! To the right is my "Most Wanted" List to help keep track of my progress. I want all of my finds to be from CRHing, so I won't be purchasing any of them. Here goes nothing! :headbang: 1)1955

First Blow Dealt to Category 1

After a 2 hour dumping fiasco, I was headed across town to my favorite pickup bank when I just randomly decided to stop at a bank that I don't go to too often. Picked up a box of dimes. Good thing, too.

Nice looking coin!

Are clad proofs visible by edge checking? Or are you checking the faces of all these dimes?

I'm just starting and have done about $450 in dimes so far; I've been looking at every coin, because I'm saving all 2009s, and just generally still feel like I'm learning and need to be looking at things. But I figured with so many boxes per week, you'd be doing edge-checks only.

I found my first dime proof over the weekend. The rim was thick but not overly noticeable. I usually only rim check but look at any dimes that have a thicker than normal rim.

Yeah, I've heard the same thing, too. I didn't catch this proof until it was already in the dump pile! :tongue3:

Most of the time I edge check, but I sprinkle in some date checks here and there. It's really up to you as a coin collector how you want to do it. Some people go for high volume and are concerned about only finding silver. Some people check every single date and look for errors on every single coin. Honestly, it's your hobby. You gotta do what makes the hobby fun for you IMHO. HH Sleepy

Friday Finds Pics

Went to my LCS...1918 is in fact a 'P' mint. The 1967 coin is a chemistry experiment that was dipped in acid and the outer clad layer has been removed. At least that's his take and I'm assuming this to be correct.

I guess what I meant was that it was really though to tell if anything was there in the first place...you can see what I mean in the picture.

Great find! Sorry, pictures don't show up on my iPhone with the treasurenet app.

I really like this thread - I've been thinking of trying to get a complete Roosevelt set through CRH myself, and your log is inspiring. Keep looking!
