Interesting Filipino coin

Found an interesting coin while going through my aunts change bin.

Its a 1907 Filipino coin and on the reverse it has United States of America.

Cool coin i believe its silver not sure what its worth but pretty cool non the less.

It is Silver, 0.5144 oz to be exact.

The US held the Philippines as a territory for some time, lots of the coins were destroyed during WW2 when they feared the Japanese would take the islands.

I have a 1908 peso from the Philippines along with some 10 and 20 centavo coins.

It's pretty cool. I think I may focus on collecting US-minted Philippine currency- not only because of the history of American Imperialism, but also because it's so limited in scope that it won't be hard to put together a good collection.

10,276,000 minted, 80% silver, 0.5144 oz ASW, valued at BV in that condition. still neat, thanks for sharing.

probrably the way the phillipinos spelled it. for example: we call our neighbor to the south Mexico, but they don't call us America, they call us Estados Unidos.

Your right,I looked it up. Ph is American and the Spanish used F. Good call thanks LP

The same reason why someone from the Philippines is a Filipino or a Filipina. Because we Anglicized it.

I'm just surprised people are spelling it right. I usually see something like "Phillipines".

I like your thinking. Not everything is about silver value. Since no one else mentioned it, you will note that it has the S mintmark and was minted in San Francisco.

I don't see the mintmark. the only "S" I see is from the word FilipinaS.

On the reverse (Eagle and Shield), you will note the date. To the left is a dot. Below the dot is the S mintmark.
