SILVER NICKEL QUESTION...

Hey All
I am a bit confused on a certain issue about nickels.If the war nickels are 1942-1945,what is the silver content of earlier coins,1939,1940,41,buffalos?Arent they just as high in silver content.Help me out here guys.Im stumped

Older nickels and Buffaloes were never made of silver. Just the 1942-1945 with the mint mark on the reverse were made of silver.

The half dime was made of silver, though, but those are so old and small I can't imagine anyone finding one in a roll.

The only silver nickels you will find are 1942 - 1945. All 1943 - 1945 were silver, but not all 1942 were silver. Look for a large mint mark above the dome of monticello. If there is not a large mint mark (P, D or S) above the dome (including Philadelphia, it will have a P) then it is not silver.

Also you want to keep a watch out for 1950-d. Worth more then the silver ones.

War nickels are 35% silver.....or 0.0563 oz of silver in each one.
