Dont want to get dogged this August - EE's monthly thread

Friday will see me at work by 6am

Friday will see 6 boxes of halves to do.

Friday will see 1 auction with five 14k necklaces along with some sterling etc. I should be at auction until 11pm or so.

Saturday will see me waking up around 3:30-4am am to meet my Russia friend to drive 3 hours to another auction to get there by 7-7:30am to look things over before the 9am start.

After that, I have another auction on Saturday that starts at 6pm to attend should be home by 11:30pm-12am.

Sunday sees me getting to auction by noon and home hopefully by 7pm to pass out for work the next day.

Hoping for an awesome tally of gold and silver for the 8th month of 2013.

A friend repaid me some money I loaned him on Friday, in return he got back some of his collateral. I didnt think he would pay me to get it back so it was added to my totals, I gave back 4.7735 ozt of silver back to him for $120. This will make my totals rather funky.

There were 5 auctions hit this weekend but first my CRH boxes.

1x CW Nickel: Skunked
1x CW Dime: Skunked
2x CW Quarters: Skunked

Box 1: Skunked

Box 6: Skunked

Friday Auction:
------------------

There was supposed to be 5 gold necklaces there, all of them were fake. I managed to pick up just a few little items. I am not figuring in the gold filled I purchased since I have taken nothing apart and I the watches run so I might resell for more auction money

Sterling Bracelet ($3.00/0.3004)...\

Saturdays early morning auction:
---------------------------------

Didnt get home until after 10pm on Friday night, after a 6am start at work. Was up at 4am and out the door by 4:30am headed towards the first auction. Picked up Vlad the Ukrainian and headed off to our destination, a 2 1/2 hour ride away. We get there, finally, in the middle of no where and were greeted by the auctioneer. He notices the scale in my hand and asked if I was here for the silver, I joke no, I am here for the guns. He laughs and proceeds to tell me that there was a mix up and all the 'Silver' is really silver plate. The box was mislabeled that there was only 1 piece of silver. We are rather pissed but doubt as pissed as the guy from Oklahoma who showed up ( his trip was 6 hours 1 way ) so we look things over, pack ourselves up and head to the back up auction, 1 hour and 15 minutes away.

We are glad we did.

Saturday auction 2: 10am
--------------------------------
We start looking things over and find all sorts of goodies. The action starts and I walk away with 5 sterling spoons at $8 ea, doubling my money. Also grabbed was a sterling sugar/creamer for $65, melt was $88 and gave that to Vlad.

Jewelry and coins come up. Most of the coins go for too much but I still snag some. It goes to choice on the table and I go to start out the bidding at $2 and one gentleman says, "I start the bid at $29 because that is all those dimes are worth in melt", commenting on the book of 22 Roosevelt dimes. The auctioneer looks rather miffed at the guys arrogance and asks if anyone is willing to go $30 on the dimes, I raise my hand, he turns to Mr Big Bidder and asks him, $31? He huffs and puffs and says no. I win the bid and he is angry.

After a bit some gold filled pins go up, I win the bid at $3 and grab one, I win the bid at $2 and grab 13 and then I win the bid at $1 and grab 3 more, snatching them all up, pissing off two guys who wanted them at really cheap.

Later another tray of items come up for sale, I start the bid at $20, the two guys who wanted the gold filled bid against me, $25, $30, all the way to my bid of $90. Right before the auctioneer says sold, they say $95.. I counter with a YUUUP for $100... I win. I grab 1 ring and pause, the auctioneer starts to turn and I say hold it and grab the other two rings, 3 rings for $300. The two guys across the way say, "I knew it.. I friggin knew it.. Ring Ring Ring." I smirk, they glare and I go on my way.

Saturday Auction 3, 6pm:
---------------------------------

Hit the late auction, Vlad the Ukrainian has some silver and gold up for sale at it. I pick up some earrings, sterling handles and a ring and get home about 9pm, only a 16 1/2 hour day.

22 Roosevelt Dimes ($30.00/1.5906)...\

Sundays auction
------------------------------------

Sunday was Estate Auction # I dont remember out of too many. I pick up a couple box lots for $85 total and snag

Sterling Spoon (0.4431)....................\
1934 6 Pence - George V (0.0455).......|
1940 2 Shillings - George VI (0.3640)..|
1950 Canadian half (0.7500)................|==>($46.40/1.8716)

Misc earrings - (0.2379)..................../

14k necklace (0.0581)..|==>($15.50/0.4141)
Misc Earrings (0.0356)./

1/20th 12k pendent and chain (0.0066).\
1/20 12k earrings (0.00100)..................|==>($23.20/)
1/20 marked .025 watch band (0.0040)../

This does not factor in 4 gold filled watches, 1 gold filled Elgin watch and a Hamilton 14k woman's watch that works from the 60's that I plan on reselling.

I sold $265 worth of costume jewelry earlier in the day that I had amassed as extra loot during the purchasing of box lots for gold and silver so I consider that as free money to use which will also factor into my final gold pricing below.

Part of that was purchasing some oil paintings, etchings, watercolors and lithographs for resale, a few of which I may or may not keep. Minus the price of the pictures I have 10 cents left in 'free money'.

Tuesday 8-6:

Box 1: 2/40%
Box 2: Skunked

Going through the box lot I purchased on Sunday, found some gold filled earrings hiding.

1/20 12k broken earrings (0.0031)

Found a JKa 800 silver clasped white glass bead necklace, I think it might be Victorian but I am unsure of that, not adding it to list, going to resell it and put that money towards more auctions and CRH.

Friday 8-9:

5 Boxes of halves done

3 Rolls of CWR Dimes: Skunked
1 Roll of CWR Quarters: Skunked

Box 1: Skunked
Box 2: Skunked
Box 3: Skunked
Box 4: Skunked
Box 5: Skunked

Picked up a set of Sterling and pearl earrings from the thrift store for 50 cents, I plan on reselling those.

SS29 Picked up a sterling toothpick holder for .($1.00/0.0595)\
SS30 Set of 7 sterling shakers for..............($1.00/0.3688)|==> Flea Market($9.50/3.1385)
SFW36 Mexican 925 Candy Dish....................($7.50/2.7103)/

Friday auction netted me nothing in the way of Silver or gold.

I did pick up a sealing ammo can to put some of my ammo in, so its not sitting in a plastic tool box and I picked up 8 MRE's to have just in case of tornado or whatever so I have food for at least a week that doesn't require refrigeration.

----------------------
Sat: 8-10:
----------------------

Went to two auctions, first on was a coin auction plus consignments, only nabbed a single bag of Misc coins. Picked them up only because I knew I could make money on the buffalo and V Nickels in the bag, inside I found a few extra surprises. Picked up the Candle Stick and Cig Case as well. Not going to count the Half Dime into my total since I am going to sell it and buy more junk silver with it or use that cash at auction.

1881, 1886. 1891, 1894, 1907 Indian Head pennies

1919 Lincoln Penny

1897, 1901, 1903(2), 1904, 1907(3), 1909, 1911(2), 1912,

1916, 1920s, 1924, 1925, 1925d, 1927, 1927d, 1928d, 1929s, 1930s Buffalo Nickels

1902, 1910 and 1911 Barber Quarter.......($9.00/0.5424)\
SS31 Broken Sterling Candle Holder.......($3.00/0.7703)|==>($15.00/3.3766) - Auction
SS32 Sterling Ciggerete Case Scrap.......($3.00/2.0639)/

There was some junk coins in there too like a 2007 'silver enriched' Sacajawea dollar and a copy silver buffalo round that weighs in at .13 oz below 1 troy oz. I will put those out at auction sometime later this year with all the buffalo's and v nickels.

----------------------
Sun 8-11:
----------------------

Auction was a bust and waste of time, went, looked and turned around.

Hopefully some dimes and nickels for Monday, my dump bank has had nothing for quite some time.

6 Boxes of halves for Friday, no auction on Friday.

2 Auctions on Saturday locally

1 on Sunday about 2 1/2 hours away from me but in the middle of no where so should produce.

Found $81 I misplaced around the house so that will come in handy and I get paid on Friday so I should have plenty of spare flow.

Also planning on putting a mess of coins up at auction soon, basically all free stuff that came in with what I wanted to buy so more free auction money coming my way. Tons of V Nickels, Buffalo's, a half dime, Indian heads etc. Stuff people go stupid over around here and things I really don't care too much about.

As for my totals below, I am so close to closing out 2013's quest for 208 oz. Maybe by end of next year I will have up to 2015 goals completed and be ahead of the game.

Been a little busy with house hunting, working, auctions etc. Time to post I guess.

The boxes have been lack luster, hopefully next week produces a little better.

Well, the auction today was craptacular. The Auctioneer was by far the worse I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. In the end I walked away with nothing but that was also a good thing. My trusty gold tester saved my butt. I saw a watch marked 14k but the color didnt seem exactly right to me. I won the bid at $180 or $190, not really sure but somewhere near there. Just one other guy and I were in a little bidding war on the watch. I take it to my car, test it... not gold. Test another spot, not gold. 3 more tests... not gold. I walk up to the guy bidding against me and ask him if he was still interested in the watch, he said he was. We went to the table, switch my number with his on the item and I walked away safe.

Where the day shined was garage sales on the way home. The first was garbage but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th paid off, after dropping Vlad off in Warsaw I ended up hitting one more auction and scored at that one too.

First garage sale was crap, nothing worth while there.

Second was a older ladies home, I am greeted by her and her husband and am looking around, they ask if I am looking for anything in particular and I comment that I am looking for cell phones, jewelry and coins mostly. She mentions she has some jewelry and goes and gets it. I start to look through while Vlad sits in the car, uninterested about garage sales. I see some sterling items, nothing serious and continue to dig through and find a ring, a heavy ring to boot in a faded plastic baggie. I look at it through my loupe, see a karat marking and toss it back into the pile as if I am uninterested. I continue to search through the items while we small talk. She asks why I am buying ladies jewelry, I tell her I buy for my sister and niece. After a few minutes I act a little frustrated and ask, how much for the entire box, I would like to just let them look through
it and pick out what they like.

She starts pulling items out, looking them over and making a pile. She gets to a little box of sterling rings, separates those and gets to the heavy ring and separates that. She then separates out the 'silver' from the costume and throws me an offer of $30. I ponder it for a second, pull out a crisp $100 bill and ask her if she would take $100 for all of it, including the rings. She mulls it over a bit and accepts my offer. Vlad cant believe how little work is involved with scoring big from a garage sale.

----------------------
2nd Garage Sale
----------------------

10k Ring ($70/0.2520)

Sterling Earring ($/0.1844)
925 Bubble Earring ($/0.1100)
925 Hoops Earrings($/0.0952)
925 Curls Earrings($/0.2052)
Dancing Indian Earrings($/0.2855)
Fish Tail Earrings ($/0.0833)
Dancing Horns Earrings ($/0.3628)
3 Sterling Rings ($/0.3658)

I am not going to count any of the sterling towards my totals as I plan on reselling all of it as soon as possible. Time to start building
up the nest egg. Total on the sterling was $30 for 1.6922 oz of silver in the form of ear rings with a silver value of almost $41

I also will start removing some necklaces and rings from my totals as those will be getting put up for sale soon enough.

-----------------------
3rd Garage Sale
-----------------------

We hit this one and I asked the guy running it if he had any coins or jewelry he wanted to get rid of, he had some coins. He was all proud of his silver quarters
He pours them out and its nothing but clad 65 to 69 quarters. I break his heart to let him know that they are only worth a quarter each. Vlad ends up picking up
10g of silver and 6 1oz bars of copper off the guy, the copper bars should sell for $3-$4 ea on Ebay. He paid $10 for all of it, his first Garage sale score.

-----------------------
4th Garage Sale
-----------------------

On the way home hit another garage sale, this time Vlad was interested in going. Nothing good outside but I asked the lady if she happened to have any
coins or jewelry for sale. We both managed to snag some 14k earrings. She asked just a quarter for them, I gave her a dollar which was easier than digging
for change in my pocket, he paid a quarter for 1.3g of 14k while I paid $1 for 0.7g of 14k lol

Well, this month was a damned good one when it came to auctions but it was the worst one by far when it came to CRH'ing not only halves but any other denomination. My dump bank has not had coin for me in over a month and I do hope that changes.

I did no auctions this weekend, I took time to take care of other things as a house purchase is in my near future.

I will also be selling some of my sterling jewelry and gold jewelry to get more cash in hand for CRH/Auctions so expect to see totals start to drop a little if I cant replenish via auction.

Hopefully September treats me better.
