This thread is for coins you find in, on, under, or around coin handling machines such as CoinStar, Coinmaster, auto-sorting machines in banks, payphones, and vending machines. Please add your story!)

At the supermarket again. Habitually stopped by the Coinstar machine, and stooped to pick up a dime on the floor. That's when I noticed that the reject tray was full of dimes. Visions of silver dimes filled my head! I looked around to see if someone had just walked away from the machine, but there was no sign that anyone had been using it in the last few minutes, so I scooped away.

Well, no silver, just:
20 dimes (1970-2002)
4 nickels (1984-1996)
1 Canadian dime (1982)
----------------------------
US$2.20 + CAN$0.10

The first Canadian non-penny I've seen in the wild in years. Meh, $2.20 for free... I can't complain. I hope no one else is complaining that their dimes disappeared.

EDIT: As your responses so quickly pointed out, that "10" should have been a "20". I blame the error on that bugged Canuck dime planting subliminal messages in my head.

April 21, I found a 1949-d silver washington quarter sitting in the reject bin of my local coin machine... second ever that I've found, 6 years apart... I do not check coinstars because there aren't really any in my area. And the few that there are, they are in places like liquor stores which I do not visit...

I recantly had a conversation with a teller who operates the coin machine and gets coins off the magnet and he told me he throws them out. I got him to save the magnet finds for me! Have not seen him the past few times to the bank, but so far I've gotten 22 foreign and 2 steel pennies(1943)

The two Kennedy's in the pic below came from teller trays, the dimes and the ASE are machine finds.

In the span of 10 days I visited a bank w/a Coinstar 2 times.

The first time found a silver 1964-D Roosevelt thrown into a potted plant being used as a makeshift trash bin near the machine.

Second time found a silver 1963-D Roosevelt on top of the machine, plus a 2006 American Silver Eagle 1oz. silver bullion coin in the reject tray.

This gives me a sensation known as lolz.

today i found:

1 x "confoederatio helvetica" 10 cent coin
1 x Casa Bonita token
1 x smushed/elongated penny. (from the M&M's factory! cool!)
1 x small blouse button
5 x US cents

and, when the machine rejected my canadian coins from dumping a whole load of coins already searched, it also spit out a random canadian dime, which i had not put in. keep it up and hh! [R.I.P. Rich Hartford]

got a 1964-d silver dime when I was on vacation while getting a soda from the vending machine. Made my day, that is the second ever silver I have gotten from the wild, first being a 1964 quarter about 10 years ago!

Haven't had time to post, but Friday night while dumping at a TD I found a 1934 King George V Canadian Dime in the reject tube. Searched online and this is apparently a low mintage year, only 409,067 were minted that year.

last night i had a dream that i was at a bank and as i was cleaning out the reject bin of one of the coin counters that had quite a few older looking pennies in it some of which looked like they could have been wheat pennies a lady teller came over and asked if i wanted to check the other bag that they had and she told me that it might not be full yet but i said i did so i went and checked it out there were barley any coins in it but i did find a bicentennial quarter and a 1964 quarter and a 1949 dime of course i took them i would have done more searching but then i woke up and in the middle of such a nice dream too.

Boredom struck today on my way home from school, so I checked out 3 Coinstars on my way home.

1st one:

1916 Barber Dime
1956 Rosie
1943 Steel Cent
1921 Wheaty

$1.32 in other US change and some foreign coins.

2nd:

Nothing

3rd:

Nothing

I'm not really surprised with the 2nd/3rd coinstar findings. Those coinstars are in a remote area of the store while the 1st one has the coinstar right in the entrance.

I used to find a lot of foreign coins on the TD bank magnets, especially canadians, British and Euros. In my area, No VA, the TD branche managers tell me I can't check the magnets any more, because they are supposed to collect the coins themselves and send them to the "Back Office", supposedly to be cashed in. They tell me that if I take from their magnet that I am stealing from them, but since these coins were snatched from the customers' coin dumps, it makes me wonder who is stealing from whom.

My best finds in a coin machine have been a watch, gold earrings, gold ruby ring, Morgan dollar and a 1 ounce silver bar (no kidding!)
