This is a first for me - silver proof! 1970, very exicited!!! There unfortunately hasn't been much else to be excited about lately.

Is it true there were more 1970 proofs minted this year than there standard 1970 halves made for circulation?

True, no halves were minted to be released into circulation, but 1970 D halves were still made in mint sets and have the same finish and appearance of a circulated coin. Looking at the mintages,
1970 D: 2,150,000
1970 S proof: 2,632,810
So yes, there were more proofs than regular strikes in 1970.
