One silver coin per week

As an effort to get out of a particularly nasty slump I have set an easy goal for myself which I plan to carry for the year. I have not the time or energy right now for high volume, not that I ever really did. I am aiming to find one silver coin per week. Just by having this goal it gets me searching and finding and one is probably a low number. I started in March and picked up a free 2014 planner from an unnamed vendor to keep myself accountable. I am searching between $50-$100 of dimes and $20 of nickels each day unless I can get half dollars in any sort of abundance. Work gets me to the banks almost daily so this isn't difficult.

So far in March:
1st full week: 1962 dime. Teller tray from a teller which I buy all of her Canadian coin once a month. She almost always has American silver mixed in with the Canadian. Ironically no Canadian silver yet.
2nd week: 1966 half and a 1964 quarter. Half from teller tray and the quarter from laundry money.
3rd week: 2 1963 red seal $5 US Notes, 2 silver dimes 59 and 62. The red seals caused a flury of activity when the teller pulled them out of her drawer. She did not realize what she ha and the other tellers noticed right quick.
This week so far: 1964 half and 1965 half. One from the same bank as the other also in a teller tray. I heard they had a bunch of rolled halves too so I bought some today and pulled the 1964. The rest will be mine tomorrow. Silver therapy. Pics! Sent from my iPhone using TreasureNet

I got 6 of the red seal $5 a few years ago at face, they are neat and I'm going to hang on to them for now. I do pick up older bills for face once and awhile. I just wanted to say I got my 1 silver for the week today. I'll put it on my post though, it was a good day today.

Not to mention my coin store would sell those for twice that!

End of the week:

1-40% half and 1 Roosevelt. Searched $110 cw dimes and a lot of dumped halves. The one silver half came from a teller tray.

You had a great week 4, and you found silver this week. Nothing to complain about there. I've had good luck with finding more then my 1 last week and this week. I even bought a '63 Washington and 3 - 40% week for FV plus $2 a piece. Not a bad price I think. Good luck with this week, lets see who finds more.....

I think I am going to hit the dimes hard this week and see what I can do with them. Have a few more places to hit for halves before I start retracing ground again without making road trips.

Great thread and great results! I would much rather have these kind of results sticking to teller trays and CWRs than having to deal with boxes.

My most recent boxes have not been skunks, but they typically give up one silver. I am getting tired of picking up and dumping boxes just to walk with one coin per box.

That's pretty much how I feel about boxes. CWRs are so much more interesting even when they don't have silver.

Nabbed this from a teller tray today.

Me: "Can I buy the 5th quarter from the bottom of your tray?"
Teller: one sidelong glance and a scrunched eyebrow..."This one?"
Me: "Yes, thank you."

And I was the proud new owner of this:

Nice eye spotting the silver quarter. I usually use drive thru's at banks unless Im picking up half boxes so I don't usually go inside most banks but the banks I do go inside keep their money in drawers now so I cant ever see what coins they have. And I was noticing today one of my banks also has one of those coin dispensers to give customers loose change. I was thinking while I was there today it seems kind of odd that some banks use those coin dispensers. I've seen it at that bank before I just don't usually pay much attention to it. And its far enough behind the counter that I'm not able to tell if it might ever have any silver inside that clear plastic holder.

We still have old fashioned tellers here so I like to go in just to snoop on their trays. Still, when I use the drive thru, most of the tellers know me, they will send halves out to me if they have them.

Nice '54....I always try to see what is in the teller trays. I haven't found any quarters. I found a '64 in CWR first week I started but nothing since that in quarter rolls. Does anyone find quarters in rolls? I'm thinking people must have hoarded those. I did manage to get a '60 and '64 Roosevelt and a '20 Mercury today. I was putting some of the keeper stuff in the safe, I have to say the silver is starting to stack up!

Today I went to a bank I haven't been in before. I asked for any halves and the teller who was not helping me pipes up that she has a dollar's worth. I said I would like to buy them and the she says well I have 6 more but they are silver and I keep ALL the silver. I then asked her how much she would like for them and her response was this: I don't know anything about the coins I only know that if is silver I should keep it. At this point I wasn't going to educate her on any of it. She didn't give me a price but instead offered me the 2 which weren't silver from her tray - a 1973 and a 1967. I will be back for more of her not-silver halves. Sent from my iPhone using TreasureNet

1973 is silver right? You should have told her anything after 1970 is silver and those are the ones she should be keeping. I had a teller try to tell me the halves up to 1974 were silver. I tried the best I could to tell her that wasn't so, but it was a waste of time.

I think the only thing that saved this coin for me was the fact that it had golden toning that resembled copper but I will tell you that in no way did it look like copper to me! I saw that beauty shining as she gladly ridded herself of it! Sent from my iPhone using TreasureNet

It does add up fast even with small finds. I love putting the final keeper in a roll and putting the roll away to start a new one!

Well, there is always tomorrow. My silver hunting ends on Friday, weekends belong to the family. I got three dimes on Tuesday and by Thursday afternoon I was thinking I wasn't going to get my 40% for the week. I have a little bank that I've hit at three times in a row, it coughed up 1 40%. I stopped at another new bank and it gave me my best roll to date, but I'll put that on my post. You got silver for the week, better than nothing.
