One silver coin per week

As an effort to get out of a particularly nasty slump I have set an easy goal for myself which I plan to carry for the year. I have not the time or energy right now for high volume, not that I ever really did. I am aiming to find one silver coin per week. Just by having this goal it gets me searching and finding and one is probably a low number. I started in March and picked up a free 2014 planner from an unnamed vendor to keep myself accountable. I am searching between $50-$100 of dimes and $20 of nickels each day unless I can get half dollars in any sort of abundance. Work gets me to the banks almost daily so this isn't difficult.

So far in March:
1st full week: 1962 dime. Teller tray from a teller which I buy all of her Canadian coin once a month. She almost always has American silver mixed in with the Canadian. Ironically no Canadian silver yet.
2nd week: 1966 half and a 1964 quarter. Half from teller tray and the quarter from laundry money.
3rd week: 2 1963 red seal $5 US Notes, 2 silver dimes 59 and 62. The red seals caused a flury of activity when the teller pulled them out of her drawer. She did not realize what she ha and the other tellers noticed right quick.
This week so far: 1964 half and 1965 half. One from the same bank as the other also in a teller tray. I heard they had a bunch of rolled halves too so I bought some today and pulled the 1964. The rest will be mine tomorrow. Silver therapy. Pics! Sent from my iPhone using TreasureNet

Well, there is always tomorrow. My silver hunting ends on Friday, weekends belong to the family. I got three dimes on Tuesday and by Thursday afternoon I was thinking I wasn't going to get my 40% for the week. I have a little bank that I've hit at three times in a row, it coughed up 1 40%. I stopped at another new bank and it gave me my best roll to date, but I'll put that on my post. You got silver for the week, better than nothing.

Yes, gotta stay on track.

I searched my first ever bag of halves but it turned out to be a dumping grounds. Lots of nifc coins though. Every handful had crimper-damaged coins so they were obviously boxed coins dumped into the counter. Oh well, it was a fun prospect!

I am on the hunt now for a 1974 D ddo.

Finally! In over 10 years of coin roll hunting I have never found a Barber style coin of any denomination...until today!

Bought $100 in cw dimes and in the third roll I found this super toasty 1910D Barber dime. I was expecting a toasty clad dime based on the edge and I was in disbelief when I found the wreath staring at me-I actually though someone had put an Indian head penny in the roll or something weird like that.

This dime was the only keeper in all of the dime rolls. Enjoy!

That's a great find. The oldest one I've got is a '20 mercury. It looks like one of those dirty, oil covered coins from the side. I always check the dates...hope for a '82 no mint mark if I don't find silver. I need an iPhone, I have a windows phone and it sucks. You are ahead of me this week, I got nothing so far. Always tomorrow!

$290 in cw halves and a few from the tray gave up these.

Should be able to top off a roll with these.

Not a bad day.

Funny that this happened. On Easter Sunday I put a 40% silver half, a silver quarter and a silver dime in one of my son's Easter eggs. Today is the first day this week that I have searched any coins and I find the same! Although the dime I gave him was a Merc...:). No complaints! HH.

Yes, I am finding more than one. My goal was to get back out and just look. I didn't want to have a huge goal. The rate I am going is very sustainable and it is paying off. It doesn't feel like a chore, instead it is fun.

The quarter came from laundry machines.

Nice tray find.....Halves have been bad last week and the start of this week. That all changed with some nice rolls of nickels today. 1922 Canadian, a Canadian rabbit, 8 pre 60', and 3 war nickels. Kind of makes up for not finding halves.

Hey LC, I found my first Barber this week, too, a 1907 dime that looks a lot like yours in terms of condition, found in newly-turned sand at the beach. Anyway, I wanted to clean it up without ruining it, so I used the old spit-in-the-foil trick and it worked just great. If you haven't heard of the technique, just take a small square of aluminum foil, spit enough spit in it to coat the coin on both sides, then press it firmly between the foil with your fingers and wait. You'll feel the coin getting hot between your fingertips and smell a lovely rotten-egg kind of smell, but when you rinse it off after about 20 seconds or so it will be noticeably cleaner. Repeat the process until the corrosion is all gone.

Congrats on your Barber, and HH!

Keep adding them to the pile....I've been doing good the last few weeks, got a few dimes, quarters and 40%ers. I think I'm going to start a log, do you have one? I have to go to my CU in the morning, going to try and pick up some CWRs. Good luck next week....

Ever since i first saw this thread i have been trying to hold myself to the one a week as well, and it has kept me hunting, and not just picking up boxes... it has keeps me closer to the tellers, talking to them and asking for oddities. It has also pushed me to keep at dimes when the halves are slow, which has slowly been building up my dime stack. Well, this week goal was reached before i even really went hunting.

i was dropping off a box and when the teller started counting cash i noticed a white edge in the half tray.. scored a 40%, then in town, i went to use a coin counter at another branch but it was broke, so i asked for halves instead and ended up with 2 more 40%ers.. so no matter what is/is not in my boxes, im already good. HH
