I've always gotten halves at the casinos in Vegas from the blackjack tables. They use them to help payout insurance. Gotten a few silvers from them too ;)

The casinos in my area are strictly soft-count so theres no coinage used in the machines or on the tables, but I was thinking more like in the cash vault when someone changes them in to gamble

Some casinos have halves, other have chips made in $2.50 or $0.50 denominations for table games.

You might be hard pressed to get silver from the casino. The cashiers that handle all the money will typically pull it all and buy it from their tills at the end of their shifts. Depending on the casino's policies, the count room staff may be allowed to pull them as well.

Casinos get in all sorts of stuff. Either from little old ladies dropping off or from their weekly deliveries. However, in my experience, most all of the keeper items leave the casino in the hands of those that work there.
