Although I had only gone through the halves and dollars, I decided not to let my small mountain of unsearched coins prevent me from making another small run with my daughter (who was too sick for daycare) to two small towns. Particularly for one bank which sold me some penny bags a month or so ago to see if they had a partially full half dollar bag that was worth filling. Also wanted to stop at a couple of banks that were closed due to the time I got there the last time I was there.

The first two banks produced nothing but $6 in clad halves combined. These had both been closed during my first trip.

The next bank I cashed in my unwanted SBA/SAC dollars as well as enough of my halves to fill the half dollar bag. The half dollar bag only had $146 in the bag of $500, but I figured, why not. It doesn't take long to search $500 in halves. They also had another $500 bag of halves, but they warned me that it probably was already searched as they someone else who searches there. Since I had the cash on me and didn't have many stops to make, I decided to buy the other bag anyway in case the competition only searched for silver and skipped the proofs and errors. I also picked up 3 more $50 bags of pennies (my unsearched hoard grew by another 15000 coins...)

My last stop of the day entailed me using the halves I had just bought to fill a $1000 half dollar bag that I knew in advance was at least half full and I had been waiting to fill for quite some time. So as I was driving the 20 minute drive there from the last bank, I was doing a quick edge search on the "searched" $500 bag to make sure the tellers couldn't pick something out of my stash, even if I was just buying back whatever it took to fill the bag. The only interesting thing I found edge searching the "searched" bag was a $5 bill and 2 - $1 bills (must have just replaced the silver with currency). I ended up needing $399 of it to fill the half dollar bag at the last bank.

From the "unsearched" $146 from the first bank I ended up getting the following (right out from under the competition's nose:
1 - 90% Kennedy (1964-D)
3 - 40% Kennedy (1965, 1968-D(2))

4 Foreign
Hong Kong, 2 Dollars (1998)
Costa Rica, 50 Colones (1999)
Mexico, 10 Pesos (1997, 1998)

1 Slug
1 Religious Token (nothing valuable)

From the $1000 bag I had pretty poor results:
3 - 40% Kennedy (1965, 1967(2))

1 Foreign
Switzerland, 5 Francs (1968) <--1967 and 1969 were silver...

1 Dog Tag (Since the tag has id info to return it if is lost, I wonder if I can get a $0.50 reward for returning it?) Also interesting since they did a recount on the bag and the dog tag still was counted as a half dollar.

This morning once my wife got home, I decided to try a short drive to try a new town that i hadn't been to and that had at least one branch I could cash in some of my halves (and the already searched dimes from my road trip). I miscalculated both the distance and hadn't paid enough attention to the list of banks in this town as I thought there were only 4 banks and I thought it would only take 30 minutes to get there. It ended up taking 45 minutes and I had to fill up with gas as well. So as I pulled into town I spotted the first bank, swung by... closed on Sat. Across the street was another one, so I stopped there. Picked up $163 in half dollars from the coin machine which included:
1 Franklin (1953-D)
1 - 90% Kennedy (1964-D)
2 - 40% Kennedy (1968-D(2))

A few blocks down the road stopped by another bank
Skunk from $7.50 in half dollars.

Now time was tight so I needed to try to find the bank I was originally focused on finding as I had 5 minutes until noon and I wanted to cash in there. Finally found it, but as I tried the door my watch read 12:02...locked..
Since I knew I could stop by some other branch banks I have accounts at on the way home until 2:00 pm, I searched the halves I had just purchased 15 minutes earlier before leaving the parking lot.

On the way back toward home/the bank I was going to cash in at. I stopped by what used to be my late night coin search casino to see if they had gone completely coinless yet. As I walked around, I only found 6 nickel machines that still used real coins and of course all 6 were full. Everything else was either $1 tokens or tickets. :P Oh well.. at least I didn't take a late night ride there just to find that out. (If they still had coin-operated quarter machines, I was going to try edge searching a few hundred dollars worth or so.)

When I stopped to cash in finally, I looked in the self serve coin machine's pour slot to remove the junk so it wouldn't get stuck while I was using it and found a coin from Somalia - 10 Schilling (2002) FAO.
Although I deposited most of my cash, while there I got $200 in $1 bills in which I ended up finding 2 Star Notes (1995-G and 2003-G) and one FRN from the series of 1981A and 2 FRN from the series of 1988A.

So what were the results on the $1000.00 dime bag from your road trip?

Don't know yet...haven't finished it. Spent the last few hours catching up on the past few days of posts and dealing with kids.

The results will be in the other thread...eventually. Early indications are plenty of canadians with a smattering of rosies. Only about 1/3rd through.
