why are people suggesting a sound test or a magnet? Are there 1961 silver or steel pennies that I'm not aware of?

Someone took mercury from a thermometer and "plated" it. I used to do it in the 50's and 60's and would try to sell them to my classmates as rare and unusual coins to get their lunch money.
Now it is a Haz-mat problem to have mercury in school. But i assure you thjat is how it was changed.
