I picked up about $600 in CWRs from 3 different banks last week and I'm pretty sure they were someone's dumps. But then I wondered, how do you throw back a coin with a silver edge like this?

Then I remembered that only the ones from the 60s and older are silver, right? I love to be on the receiving end of a noob CWHer! This is my 4th 1970D. I love to find them. It's a strange roller coaster ride of emotion when you do though. First you see the edge - sweet! Then you see the date - what? It looks like silver. Dang. I was sure it was. Then you realize that ya, it's silver - sweet again!

Is it just me or is there an actual biological explanation for the quickening of the pulse that seems to come with pics of coin rolls with that white edge peeking out of the common pack?

In nearly $100K worth of halves I have found but one "70-D. I actually found the "70-S long before it. At that rate finding 4 D's makes my back ache thinking about hauling all those coins. I envy and commend you.

I've searched almost $400k in halves over the last 2 1/2 yrs or so. Sounds like that $100k/per '70D average sounds about right.

Doesn't have to be a noob hunter. It could also be an old-timer as well. I remember trying to convince an old-timer (I've been hunting for 30+ years, so this fella was a real old-timer) that there was silver in 40%'ers. This was before 40%'ers were ever considered to be a keeper. He was adamant that there was no silver in any coin minted after '64. Despite, showing him the RedBook (this was before the interweb) and the coin's compositions, he was still adamant that it was a mistake. His mantra was '64 and earlier. Sometimes old dogs can't be taught new tricks.

I've found five 1970 halves so far. Two S mints and three D mints. Two came from boxes. Three were tts scores.

My last 1970d i found was from 36 dollars worth and the teller even showed it to me and explained how it was silver, i still acted dumb the whole time telling him that i thought all halves had silver in them

I remember throwing the 40%'ers back, also. There was no market for them and you would tie up your entire bank roll if you kept them.

Yep I remember throwing them back too. Coulda made a fortune on those bad boys!
